Marchesa, Spring 2013
We’d been waiting eagerly for the Spring 2013 Marchesa presentation ever since we saw their moodboard here that hinted at an Indian theme. The collection didn’t disappoint one bit. Dresses that used brocade fabric were left simple and free of embellishment and likewise heavily beaded dresses were kept simple at the fabric level. Subtle use of draping inspired by saris, separates resembling lehangas and churidaars-suit ensembles dominated.
We wouldn’t blame you for drawing parallels to the Chanel Pre-fall 2012 collection or for that matter Dior’s Fall 2009 collection, but we think Marchesa brought its own voice to the collection, one that we liked.

Love the saree-esque gown in the first row (far right). Not a Marchesa fan, but this collection is pretty stellar.
AMAZING!
Gora’s shouldn’t try to make biryani into hotdogs.
And indians shouldn’t try to make hotdogs into sabzi.
it looks ok but can’t see it going too far
..??
WTF?!
it”ll be ok for halloween, it’s too much
LOVE LOVE LOVE
love, love, love!
i’ve been drooling over each piece.
Scrumptious collection. Love Love Love it!!
The Vera Wang collection was India-inspired too and I much preferred her subtler references to this very literal collection. Still, I guess we’ll still see plenty of them on the red carpets.
This.is awesome! Wish I could afford atleast one!
Definitely a great collection…. waiting now who wears them and how?
Breathtaking. I want every piece!
I like this collection and compared to Chanel’s pre-fall 2012 collection I like that they didn’t go over the top with the make-up and hair styling
Lovely! Loving the second and fourth dresses in the top row especially.
Love love love!
Love the first four!
Hate the last four…on the fence about the middle four!
Really nice take
OMG! That entire top row is so drool worthy. Beautiful!
Yeap , love the first row.. and only that row..
Now why can’t Indian designers come up with something like this? Its very Indian yet very modern. Love it
Hmmmm….not loving this collection at all. It looks like a hodgepodge to me. As I am Indian I probably feel this way since it looks like some outfits are long kurtas minus the chudidhaars….or maybe it is the models who can’t seem to really carry off this collection as it looks like the clothes are wearing the models rather than the other way around. The sari gown (first row, last picture) is ghastly.
Oh my! Fabulous collection. Love the white/red in the first row.
Wow- this is simply stunning!!
Love love love it! Such beautiful India inspiration… Now for people to wear these clothes 🙂
Love to see my culture represented, but this is too literal for my taste.
Love Love Love!
A very nice collection. Love the second and the third dress the most!
Love ’em all! I can almost see myself in one of them (especially from the topmost row) at my office Christmas party! Now only if I could afford them…
Beautiful pieces that are is a perfect combination of traditional Indian sensibility & modern western execution, without going overboard on jewelry or embroidery. I don’t agree that it looks Halloween-ish. Barring a couple of designs, the rest would look great on the red carpet. I do wish though that it came with an Indian designer name! Fashion survives by evolving and changing. So i think when respectfully done, whats the problem with a indo-western mix like this? In fact, a lot of these are so much better than what our own designers have been churning out in the name of Indian wear!
Huh! have seen much better clothes by Indian Designers on the runway. this is pure BS!
whoahh.. Chanel Pre-fall 2012 <3 <3
Love it and I wouldn’t compare it to Chanel pre-fall. They both took inspiration from India but the collections are night and day
So beautiful!! Love the pink dress on the first row all the way to the left and I also love the white and red dress in the same row.
2nd row, 2nd outfit from left – the red one. LUST.
it looks a bit too ‘bar-dancer’ for me, who’s from India…but I guess it works outside that context. all that fabric and colour is overwhelming (there is a good aesthetic reason we leave the mid-riff bare in sari draping!) & it seems like height would be integral for this to not overwhelm the person wearing it.
*Sighs, gushes, wishes and then faints* <3 the collection!
was hoping P&P will post photos of Hayden Panettiere wearing the 3rd gown last row during the emmy’s.
