This week’s episodes see Madhuri in a red Tarun Tahiliani sari featuring a one-shouldered blouse. Between the blouse (never been a fan of the style) and the the two-inches too low sari drape over it, there was nothing left to like.

Did she look better on TV?

  1. Her face looks really pretty in the last pic but that outfit is a complete eyesore. It reeks of unclassiness and desperation. A sari should either be wrapped properly or not worn at all in my opinion.

  2. She was looking really bad……She has a beautiful face…she needs to dress according to her age…..Dis season I m not liking her look at all…

  3. How terribly tacky does she look, hard to believe its Madhuri.
Whoever her stylist is for this season, she should be changed pronto – her saree drapes are getting worse by the day and at this rate she’ll win the title hands down in a Ms Vulgarity pageant. Three thumbs-down…wait a minute, make that like a 100.

  4. Is she wearing a wig?
Tarun Tahiliani is getting Madhuri to channel his pet bollywood muse Shilpa Shetty, is he? This is all sort wrong…but it brings up the question how does one make a woman of a certain age sexy but not desperate…if sexy was what they were going for.
On the positive, her face is ever-radiant.

  5. Good frickin lord! At this age being a wannabe is just trashy! If she had the right body type age aint a matter, but unfortunately she does not have it.

  6. No words. That blouse looks like it’s made from a carpet or velvet drapes. The hair looks like a rug. That last pic is super photo-shopped.

  7. Even separate from the lower drape, I find the upper drape annoying, too. Similar to strapless/noodle strap blouses, with one shouldered blouses (unless the shoulder is not on the same side of the drape, which would be odd in any case), it seems that the wearer feels some compulsive need to do the one-breast showoff. And quite frankly, I’ve never understood this need to show off one’s breasts in a saree – if you wanted cleavage, wear something that is not a saree, but I’m really not on board with moulding a saree into a different kind of sexiness – its sexiness lies in its elegance. And yes, sometimes one wants to show off more (nothing wrong with that), but there are other outfits with which to do it. With a saree, it comes off as tacky and quite frankly, a waste of a good (sometimes) piece of fabric. /Rant over.

    • I don’t understand what gives anyone the right to say what is the “correct” way of wearing a sari? just look at ancient sculptures and paintings, and you’ll realise that this “one boob” phenomenon that everyone on HHC seems to rant on about has been long for a long time! there is no “right” way to carry a pallu or wrap a sari! However I must agree the actual sari and blouse she is wearing are quite tacky to say the least!

      • Well if we went that far, there was nothing like a pallu in fact. Only a tube and then a drape down. And some were even topless. The blouse in itself was a concept of the British-victorian concept of covering the breasts “appropriately”. Obviously its too late for us to go back to that era. 😛 I don’t mind strapless, one shoulder, boob show whatever but definitely one has to have the body type, the attitude and the confidence to carry off certain styles which seems the lacking point in this case.

    • +1 with whatever ak said. The only thing i can accept in the same of sexiness in a saree is a low waist drape like how Shilpa wears it. Anything else makes it tacky.

  8. Oh Madhuri! With that gorgeous face and amazing smile it’s hard not to forgive you…but you break my heart! That shade of red, a one shouldered blouse and a tacky drape….how many aspects of a look can one forgive??

  9. First of all this saree is for someone statuesque which madhuri is certainly not. Saree is nice though. I don’t like her fake hair. It makes her head look big which looks odd on her tiny shoulders.

  10. This is just trashy. Why would she wear this? I don’t care about the age but this looks bad. I think vidya is better dressed than her. Atleast she doesn’t try to look half her age is Waist revealing outfits.

  11. She looks radiant! Apart from the way the sari is draped & the earrings, she looks absolutely gorgeous. The color, sari and styling are just fine. There’s a lot to like here.

Sometimes there’s too much unnecessary criticism that goes on here (criticism for the sake of it).

  12. The saree is really pretty and the color suits Madhuri as well. The blouse is terrible though and almost ruins the whole look. Neck up she looks gorgeous though.

  13. This was a terrible look even on TV. The drape was really tacky. And she is just over-exposed in that show, i do not mean clothing wise. She is just praised and complimented every 5 minutes that its a total bore.

  14. I really don’t understand why so many people are hating on this. Agreed it’s not the best ensemble but trashy and vulgar? I wouldn’t go that far. And boy do we live in an ageist society.

  15. I don’t understand this outfit but she is oozing oomph here. Isn’t that partly what made her a super duper star? This is Jhalak Dikhla Jaa not Dinner with the Queen.

People it seems are quite attached to ideas of how women of a certain age should dress. Between Madhuri, Sridevi and others, hopefully there will be a paradigm shift soon.

  16. Hey! You commenters are giving me the wrong idea! I scrolled up to see Madhuri’s boob and there was none!! Dammit!!

Oh, you mean she wasn’t draping the saree like you deemed appropriate? Ever seen a Raja Ravi Varma painting? *SLAP YOSELF*

Madhuri was never the goody two shoes, who dressed up to please you aunties anyway! She was and will always be the dhak dhak girl, glamourous and sexy, so just deal with it. I don’t even think a bitchy mother-in-law could top the class act(NOT) that you have going here.

PS: To all the 20 somethings who are being ageist (I am 27 myself and grew up watching Madhuri), to you I say “auntyji auntyji, get up and dance!” Or actually don’t, cause Madhuri is better than the lot of you in that as well!

  17. Atleast she is not as desperate as Sonam (a full boob show on TV) and a winter jacket for summers…Madhuri is looking radiant …lovely smile… I hope she gets the right stylist!

  18. Funny how Sri Devi shows up in just as ‘vulgar’ clothes but everyone calls her a fashionista. Madhuri shows up like this and suddenly it’s OMG SO VULGAR?

    • When Sridevi wears a sari she wears it appropriately not as vulgar and obscene as this. Plus Madhuri does not have Sri’s taste in saris neither the height. Nobody rocks a sari as Sridevi.
