All That Glitters…

Seeing shades of Gold at an Indian wedding/reception certainly comes as no surprise, it’s even expected. And that’s exactly what we spotted at Laila Khan’s wedding reception, the hue in it’s various tones… However, the fact that not even one look had us going ‘Wow’ certainly did come as a surprise.

(I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that Payal absolutely liked this appearance of Dia’s. For me, it was a ‘Not Quite’.)

  1. Rekha- that kanjeevaram…drooooool!! Fabulous color.
Dia- love the saree, hate the blouse.
Pooja Bedi- umm, too glitzy. Parveen Babi in the 80s. Reminds me of Pyaar Karnewale song in Shaan.
    Shaina- blah.
Madhoo- no drama this time?! Elegant saree.
Farah Ali Khan- worst dressed of the lot. No shape or form. The gold handbag is an eyesore. Garish jewelry.

  2. I thought Madhu draped her sari the best even though her make-up looks a bit weird. I didn’t like Dia here, she always looks so elegant but here something is not quite right. What’s with Rekha’s bad drape? Spot the pin holding up the pleats of the sari ? It kinda kills the look for me, otherwise she looks resplendent as ever…..

    • Yeah, whats with Rekhas safety pin in pleats thing? Maybe it gives you a more svelte look by making sure the pleats don’t flare out?! She looks her usual gorgeous self though. Dias saree is pretty but the hair do is making her look too mature. Love farahs jewelery and the outfits o.k but that bag is horrid! The rest look so so, nothing that stands out for me anyway.

    • Completely agree with ur view.. I realy like Dia’s sraee but because of her blouse maybe she is not looking great. I don’t like her hair. Madhoo’s look is the best

  3. I am with Payal, I love Dia’s attire. And she is wearing light green (and I love the combo with red)- not gold. Maybe a lighter necklace would be better, but she looks angelic.

The rest are okay. Madame Re is herself, but somehow I can’t get myself to like that saree she is wearing. The rest are okay but not my cup of tea. And my, Madhu is not bad!!

  4. For once, Dia looks perfect neckdown, and not so perfect neck up (the hair). Really, just how gorgeous her sari is!
As for the rest- I won’t even bother commenting. All I can say, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew

  5. Dia looks rocking. How can you say its ‘not quite’. i mean really..look at her, she is downright gorgeous i say!
pooja bedi looks horrendous. Do not like Rekha’s saree. Shaina NC looks meh. Farah looks somewhere between ok and nice. Madhu looks simple but elegant, i would say this is one of her better appearances.

  6. I think Dia looks great! Is that a net pallu to a more solid saree? I couldn’t quite figure that out. Looks a bit like what Vidya Balan wore for the Filmfare awards earlier this year (the saree style I mean).

Madhu looks nice too. I happened to hear one of her old songs (Jise dekh mera dil dhadka…jannat ki koi hoor nahin mere college ki…ek ladki etc etc ) and can’t quite believe she has come such a long way since that song (remember the chains around her hips and the tight black mini?–I know I know, stylists were unheard of back then!).

Btw, whats with Rekha’s saree–is that gota on a kanjeevaram??? (yikes!)…Also, the border placement on that saree seems to shorten her. Not so good!

  7. I like How Shaina NC has draped her saree, even the saree itself is not so bad. She isn’t called the queen of drapes for nothing.

Haven’t seen Madhu dressed ‘this well’ in a long time. Good effort on her part to keep things simple.

Diya Mirza is so pretty, wish she would have worn a better saree.

  8. since this is a fashion and not a beauty appreciation blog I would have to agree with Priyanka. Diya’s sari is a tad filmish and a couple of inches too long.
Madhoo carries her sari the best although the whole look is quite bleh.

  9. For me Dia and Madhoo look the most comfortable and perhaps it is because Dia looks so much at ease that the look is missing that little something we look for from a celebrity. Also, if only the blouse didn’t have that border; cos it does stand out like an outsider in the whole look.

I feel Rekha’s saree is overpowering her here.

Shaina’s saree choice lets her down.

    Farah looks good waist up.

And Pooja probably went to a casino post wedding!

  10. dia doesnt look her elegant self. long hair looked good on her. the short hair isnt suiting the lady-like look she tries to sport. im not quite liking the sari even though it looks familiar to aishwarya and vidya’s sabyasachi saris. so will go with priyanka. the rest look okay. madhu does look good in her simple avatar.

  11. I really like Dia’s sari & jewelery..but there is something wierd about her posture or the way she is standing…Pooja I feel is inappropriately dresses….Rekha the usual but I feel that she usually drapes her sari better than this…Shaina is wearing her sari in a not so traditional way which is looking good….Don’t like Farah’s outfit except that pop of green on her finger…Madhoo is looking good after what definitely is ages!!!

  12. Rekha looks amazing. It is again so amazing to see Rekha compared to women atleast 30 years younger than herself . Rekha looks fab and better than everyone.

    • Agreed. Rekha looks like a Greco-Indian Goddess in that pic, the way her sari is flowing. Don’t understand when people don’t get it. It’s like their senses have been dulled. Too bad. Rekha, I appreciate! 🙂 So graceful and larger than life.

  13. The women of India need to understand that a saree or a salwaar filled with zari, gold, and embroidery should not be paired with overly blingy diamonds or too much gold jewelry. It kills the look and takes the focus off the clothes as well as the jewelry. Less is more ladies!
