In Vicky Tiel

Kareena attended an event on Wednesday evening wearing a vintage gown from Vicky Tiel paired with a ruby necklace and her hair down. I like the idea of keeping it simple but I feel like the gown needed a different hair do.

Having said that though, it is funny that the corset drape gown has been adopted by so many labels and has been sported so often that am wondering if it was a conscious move by Rhea, who styled her, to opt for a vintage piece to kinda one-up the rest and/also school the current Indian labels. (Pure speculation on my part, but of course, but if true, well-played, Rhea!)

P.S. The bottom row is just some of the recent labels that come to my mind who have offered the corset draped gown. Am sure there are plenty more!

  1. You make an astute comment but I seriously doubt that Rhea put that much thought into it.
She does lover her vintage stuff and this was probably just in the realm of that.
Love everything here except for the hairdo like you say.
But Kareena is again so gorgeous that somehow it all still just works. Love the make up!

  2. Loving these classic looks from Kareena. In a world of too much styling by the Bollywood ladies, simple elegant timeless styling looks elegant.

  3. Agree, the outfit needed a different hairstyle this makes it look flat. I think stylists have discovered how well the corst/armor like outfits complement the Indian figure and there’s just no stopping them now

  4. What part of this nondescript, dismal npc gown “one ups and schools Indian labels”? That’s just something you came up with randomly to sound snarky and conspiratorial. Unnecessary unprovoked elitism.

The corset is at least 500 years old and has seen so many interpretations over the years. I found some of the fare from “Indian labels” more interesting and better suited to the Indian figure.

Atleast update your snobbery to sound more modern. Treating something vintage or archival as infallible is so 90s and cringe.

    • Rhea, who almost always have this tone in all their posts that we support our local designers opted to not pick one by an Indian designer when there were so many options. That part is interesting here to me.

    • Very well said! Both the gown and the styling are desperately bland and unremarkable. I couldn’t understand from where Payal was mustering enthusiasm for it, and then I came across Hellenist’s comment calling out the “Emperor’s new clothes” lol. This blog needs these checks once in a while,; deifying one trick ponies like Rhea and her ilk into post-modern fashion savants. Takes malicious deliberation to make Kareena look like usher staff at Cannes.
