In Amit Aggarwal

Kareena was felicitated at the opening of a film festival dedicated to all her movie in the past 25 years where she was seen wearing a vintage black Benarasi sari re-designed by Amit Aggarwal. You’ll remember Mr. Aggarwal caught some flak with the rangkat sari that was worn by Priyanka. This time though the designer ditched the cutting and instead used pleats and stitching to create a drape. I, for one, do applaud the effort.

Coming to Kareena, given the contemporary gown style drape, the jewellery (Uncut by Aditi Jain) here felt a bit too traditional and clashed. But, that’s a minor gripe. Ms. Kapoor looked great.

P.S. I did ask on Rhea’s handle what will happen to this restored sari now that the event is over. If I get a reply, I will update this post. I would hate to see another beautiful vintage sari being used as a one time wear and forgotten.

  1. I like the outfit here, not the accessorizing. What’s the point of a not-saree if you’re going to dress it up exactly like a saree? Esp don’t think the bindi works here.
Other than that, Kareena looks great.

  2. What an absolutely incredible outfit. Beautiful, haven’t seen something so good in a while. Love the way it drapes on Kareena. However the drop pendant jewellery is somehow clashing with the architectural nature of the outfit, something more directional would have sealed the deal. But still this looks incredible. Super happy to see it. Also Kareena what a style star, she has a very strong personal style which is so incredible to see and the same shines and comes through when she collaborates with a designer like this. Super.

  3. Couldn’t this saree have been draped as a saree? That would have really re-vived the saree. The gown design makes her look wide in the middle and seems like a fusion of Thai/Srilankan dress using a Banarasi saree material

  4. Sorry but I absolutely hate this trend. The gown doesn’t look great (despite the craftsmanship involved, kudos). The right sleeve looks weird, the off-shoulder makes her look boxy. The pleates coming out of her abdomen looks plain weird. It’s just so pointless and gimmicky. Why not just leave the beautiful weave as is and restore it like Anaita did with DP’s recent green saree? Hate the styling choices too – bindi, hair, necklace and the brown dull make-up. It just doesn’t come together.

The one time it worked was when Kriti wore this to NMACC I think the styling was fanatstic with elevated / salvaged the gown https://www.highheelconfidential.com/kriti-sanon-in-monisha-jaising-at-nmacc-india-in-fashion-exhibit-gala/

      • Took the worda right out of my mouth. Like those plaster of paris apsaras mounted on fountains in the 80s pouring water into an ‘already’ waterfall? the middle of her abdomen looks like that pour.

    • The pleats coming out from around belly looks like water flowing out of pots that sculptures of women holding pots that you see in dams or temples. This would have been stunning if worn as a saree. Can u even reuse this gown after reviving it? What is the point of reviving if you cannot rewear?

  5. My eyes straight went to the way the pleats are coming out in the front in for lack of a better word, looks inappropriate.
Such an inexcusably awful drape on a stunning saree and a gorgeous wearer…

  6. I just noticed that the earrings on both ears aren’t the same .
I like the top half of the gown.Bottom half , I think the designed couldn’t get ant more creative and just let it haphazard .
The jewellery as individual pieces are great but all together take away from the look . The bindi could have been skipped

Why did this outfit need those accessories!!
And the hair!!! Gharelu tied hair- such a let down!!

  8. On closer look the top of the dress looks like fans. not a big fan! the concept is nice but I think a little overdone.

Agree with he bindi comment – not going with the dress

  9. It is and outfit. But Kareena has a grace and glows. Inner confidence, awareness!!I don’t mind the bindi at all. On a side, will you cover Laura Derb’s Sabya jewelry. I loved how she matched it with black.

  10. The over designed draping on top make her look so matronly in the pictures where she is sitting, as if her bust has shifted to her neck. The jewelry is very saas bahu serialesque, the bindi random. The entire metallic brown palette of the make-up nakes her look drab and blasé. Brown is not her colour, atleast not for evening events.
