Men At The Met

Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra attended the Met Gala on Monday evening with wearing the latter’s design. The theme for this year for “Costume Art” and dress code was “fashion is art”. I can give Manish a pass for presenting Mumbai interestingly through his 3-d jacket but the man did his friend dirty.

Like I swear my first thought at seeing Karan in that coat was “Is this some kind of brand collab with a rug company?”. No, seriously!

  1. Gosh, both beautiful outfits.. I think Karan and Manish both turned out amazing! its like I’m the designer without saying a word.. also Karan could’ve tried some style to his hair and face or something to look different. seriously, the guys did way better this time.

    • Came here to say this – the Met is really about how you interpret the theme. Literally just put art onto fashion, a bit embarrassing, no matter the outfit.

    • Exactly what I thought. They look like a bunch of provincial hicks who just copy pasted the art on the fabric. No nuanced subtext on or interpretation of the theme. The art doesn’t even have any texture or depth to it. Just cheap, ersatz digital print on velvet. Like some South Delhi Pammi Aunty’s idea of “classy”. What are these coarse Bollywood businessmen even representing there? Can you buy your way in basis donations? Is that how the Ambani kid got in too?

  3. Nah I don’t agree . Not a Karan or a Manish fan one bit but this look on Karan was regal . It was pure art . Think he really ate

  4. For Karan Johar, I suppose if the black trousers didn’t merge with the black inside lining of the coat, structurally, Karan’s look could have come out cleaner. The proportions seem off this way. Nonetheless, it’s a great look.

  5. Without a doubt, men from India have outdone women this time!
The vision, the work and the grandeur, absolute perfection!!

  6. Both looks are overkill and ott. The fabric, the silhouette did nothing for their bodies and looked like cardboard cutouts. I will take Diljit over these two any day on the MET carpet. His outfit was authentic and regal..
