In Sabyasachi

Kangana picked a Sabyasachi kanjeevaram sari to wear to the Umang concert on Saturday evening, pairing it with a ruby and emerald choker and studs that coordinated with the color of the sari. I would’ve liked her to go either/or on the jewellery but she looked nice.

On an aside, just when I think there is no mandate on how a Sabyasachi outfit should be worn, we see an appearance that features that signature middle-parted hairdo and small bindi. Can someone let us know anonymously if there is one. 😛

  1. Kangana looks good but can I say this saree must be one of the less pretty ones from Kancheepuram..Even normal folks like us can get our hands on much gorgeous sarees than the one Kangana sports here!

  2. If anyone has ever watched Band, Baajaa and Bride on NDTV Goodtimes channel, which is basically where Sabyasachi and NDTV help brides prepare for their big day, one would know that all are styled similarly by Sabyasachi…small bindi, choker and layered/big necklace, mathapatti (since its bride), big jhumkis and muted makeup.

  3. A middle-parted do with a bun (or plaits for longer hair) is traditionally how women wore their hair in this country. Walk on the streets here, and this is still a common sight, typically among older women and non-modernised societal sections. Open hair was considered inappropriate in most cultures. It seems appropriate to use this hairstyle with traditional wear, no? I don’t need to defend the bindi, I think.

  5. Gorgeous saree n Kangana sure looks pretty n elegant but one can find such sarees at Nalli. Both the necklace n the earrings are complementing the look n are not looking ott. Talking about last few appearances of Sabya’s sarees, I feel these Banarasis n Kaanjivarams have been procured from their source of origin, typical Sabya border has been added to give them ‘designer’ element n are marketed under the brand name ‘Sabya’! When it comes to traditional sarees like Chikankari, silk from South or rich Banarasi, what all the designers are doing is simply ‘marketing’ the product!

    • Ah now it makes sense. I was wondering what is going on with the border/pallu. So these “designers” just add these and make it “designer”? *smh* Agree completely. You can buy beautiful Kanchivarams at the many original shops in Kanchivaram. And good ones at Nalli, Kumaran Silks, Pothys, RMKV & many such places in Chennai.

  6. She looks Wow!! The styling is correct, that’s what matters. Why to care if the hairstyle is repeated many times, it goes with a lot of Indian outfits and we’ve been seeing this hairstyle since decades and ages on our aunts, grandmothers, actresses.

  7. She looks beautiful and that color is lovely. Are the border and pallu of the saree lined? Because they seem to be weighing down the drape. O

  8. What has Sabyasachi designed here? Paisley and the color combination is very typical Indian design. Just adding an embroidered border which makes the saree look incongruous, is not a “designer”.

  9. Kanjeevaram sarees and their elegance don’t belong to Sabyasachi or any other designer. Even without a “designer” intervention, they are beautiful, exquisite and elegant. Just check nallis or any such stores, you will find many many beautiful non- designer silk sarees, the credit for these beautiful creations must always go to the weavers.

  11. I want to see her wearing dressy Kolhapuri heels with the sari. The flats are cool but not all the time! Kangana needs to up her shoe game and not stick only to pumps or flats.

  12. I love the deep scooped blouse, it’s adds a much needed lightness to the look. I think this is where others might have faltered and worn a high neck blouse and added a choker on top of it. KR knows exactly how to balance out the look

  13. Why I am a big KR fan in terms of styling is because she changes out things but keeps enough things intact that makes it her signature look. It is always Kangana. Others change too many things at the same time hence my brain just percieves each element separatey and it never adds up to a whole signature style.
It is clear how she likes to wear her sarees and she sticks to it. She actually wears very little makeup, never plays up her eyes or lips…….which does with western wear/dresses etc.

  14. Kangana is just gorgeous. Love her accessories and styling. Wish she had just worn a traditional kanjeevaram, the typical sabya work on the border looks like needless bells and whistles
