In Payal Khandwala

Ashtami celebrations saw Kajol in another sari, this time in a Payal Khandwala colorblocked silk one. As lovely as Kajol looked, am on the fence about the blouse pick.

If this any other event, I wouldn’t give two hoots about it but here it seemed a bit out of place. Go ahead, call me a prude.

    • Agree Pujo, Bongs and black strap blouses were staple even in 80s and 90s in India nothing shocking about it. And since you asked. Prude ? .

      • I agree. Super prude! My mum wore these in the 80s …. What is so scandalising about a sleeveless blouse! Coming from the fact that we didn’t even have a concept of blouse 200 years back….

        • Lol. We are like that ONLY. 😛 Even 100 years back many didnt wear blouses and still in some tribes. Before that if you see in the scriptures/sculptures, pretty much bralettes or bare. Lol.

    • Lol. Seriously, visit any ‘pandal’ and Bongs wearing bangla cotton saree with sleeveless blouse is a common sight and yes, they carry it with elan! Have many Bong friends. Not just during Durga Puja but in day to day basis too, women in Kolkata wear cotton sarees with sledveless blouses. Its common as weather is really humid!

  1. She is glowing in this sari, positively incandescent. As far as the blouse goes, at least she doesn’t have one of the girls out from under the sari which seems to be the current look.

  2. I take issue with the blouse not because of the occasion or the place but because it has been paired with a silk saree..In my books , silk saris are sacred and shouldn’t be messed with in the name of fashion/comfort . Call me whatever name you want for that ! 😛

  3. I don’t like the blouse simply because the colour was off – something patterned or that picked up on the brighter colours of the saree (e.g., purple) would have been to far greater effect.

Re Bongs and pujos – maybe it’s a regional thing, but all the Tamil religious events I have been to have seen everybody quite covered up, so she would be out of place at those pujas. I myself don’t find this bold – deep cut blouses in the back have been around forever and I think it’s actually a good way to show off skin desi style. On the other hand, there was a picture of her at a pandal serving food with sunglasses on the whole time – unless there was some medical reason for it, I found it both odd and offensive.

  4. You seriously should visit Bengal. Black sleeveless blouses have always been the go to thing for ages. Everyone of every age wears them. Goes with any saree with smokey eyes and nude lips. She looks great. Not even one bit inappropriate. And in reply to someone above. Properly padded blouses are actually very comfortable. Way more comfortable than wearing a bra and a blouse and fiddling with the strap which always tends to pop out.

  5. Nothing to do with being a prude but the thing is such sleeveless blouses doesnt suit her at all. This is the same with Ms. Dixit too. LOL.

  6. You know my Bengali friends set records for how far they can push the whole blouse concept, so as to it seeming as the bosoms are being held up by tiny strips of cloth through witchcraft. As my very wise bengali friend tells me all the time the sarees are all about the blouse. This blouse in comparison to what I’ve seen on them at Pujo is infact a very very prudish, conservative one. Bengali girls are way more chilled out about these things than most of India.
    Kajol looks lovely!
