Shimmer And Shine

At Karan’s birthday do, Kajol was photographed in an olive sequin and fringe dress. Love the color on her but the look didn’t quite work on the actor. Perhaps it’s the gold jewelry that looked out of place, or maybe because Kajol herself didn’t quite look at ease in the dress, either way, it was bit of a miss.

  1. It is the dress itself that is a problem. The cut, fit, fall, fringes – nothing works here. Adding to the woes is the different toned jewelry and mimatched makeup. A lost opportunity for Kajol.

Would have loved to see her in a crisp white shirt, sparkly silver skirt, sky high strappy heels, dramatic graphic eyeliner and a structured ponytail. One can only wish!

  2. I saw a video with her walking down the carpet. The sheerness of the material did nothing for her. And the gold jewellery does not go with the shimmer and less said about the bunched up tassles, the better. I am sure she has loads more at her disposal, wonder what made her choose this.

  3. Kajol’s clothes, no matter the occasion, always look like she sourced it off Amazon or some of those dubious fashion websites selling fast fashion. There is no quality associated with her clothes. This is an observation based on her more than 2 decade long career in the industry.

    • I think most actors over the years never bothered about clothes, their quality or fashion standards in general, they were really beautiful, acting took presidence, fashion was kind of secondary, and that’s just why most 90s stars are clueless. It’s all started with Sonam, I can’t think of anyone who cared a bit of dressing, Preity was usually dressed well.. but that’s about it.
So kajols decades were spent In simplicity and acting, max.

      • I think the actors of the earlier era did have distinctive style when it came to clothes, hair styles etc. They still hold their own to date (think Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore and so on). I do agree that most of the 90s stars are clueless and generally struggle to move on from their era, with a few exceptions…

          • I politely disagree. Everyone wants to look good and make an impression. They were only limited by societal standards for dressing and accessibility I would think. Whatever they had available then, they made do with it. They still made an impression in those times as common people had no access to brands/style. Style changed over the years, societal Norms changed, with it here we are in the bold and beautiful era with better accessibility to high fashion and sponsors. Style just refined over the years!

      • The tone of this comment is condescending. To say one is better than the other because of acting and style is wrong. If some brought acting talent to the table, the others brought fashion. Sonam did a fab job there, if we’re were to take her example again.
It’s entertainment industry. Whatever brings in business is good.
There was a phase where actors like Kajol or Juhi weren’t exactly the most fashionable but maybe it was more due to want of a good stylist and exposure and availability of multiple brands ( India was just picking up with globalisation and internet). Not because they chose acting over fashion or were more talented than the newer actors.

  4. This would have worked if it was just a shirt dress sans the fringe and if the length was even. It has way too much going on as is.

  5. I don’t understand why we need to soften our criticism of bad clothing choices with ifs and buts — BUT she’s a great actor — as if people’s talent or the lack of it has anything whatsoever to do with what they wear. They might be the greatest thing that happened to cinema but if, after a lifetime in showbiz, they have no clue what works for them (entirely possible though it’s something even ordinary mortals figure out over a period of time) and are simply not invested enough in their appearance (should be a sin in showbiz, given so much of it is about appearances) to hire a good stylist/team, I’m sorry, but they should be called out.
This is a rubbish outfit, period.

  6. Kajol aleays has these awkward forced smiles.. ruins most pics where she poses! For such a good actor, u’d think making a fake smile look natural should come easily to her!
