  1. I try hard to look beyond her grumpy face, and when I manage that I catch sight of her red bracelet and the red nail paint…it’s a clear NO for me!

  2. Love the colour!! How can you go wrong in a classic Kanchi saree? Speaking of sarees, I thought the author of Bachchanalia, Bhavana Somaya looked very nice in the paithani saree too.

  3. the saree is really pretty but her expression is not..and yes, the camera might have caught her at an inopportune moment but I have rarely seen her look relaxed or happy in front of the camera…

  4. When she dresses up shabbily…she’ll be all smiles..and when she actually puts on something nice…she will have a scowling expression on her face. Interesting..!

  5. I can’t get beyond that face, i am dissapointed in you calling it a delight since attitude is the most fashionable itme one carries her in this pic is all worng as mostly seen, I would pick a overly gigly Aish anyday over her

  6. I’m tired of seeing this family, she looks the same as every other occasion. Same goes for aish! she looks like a grouch, and the blue sari isnt doing her any justice. they all suck!

  7. That’s a nice color on Jaya but boring sari. I saw more pictures of the event (release of book collection of Amitabh pictures and memorabilia from movies) and Jaya was actually smiling and laughing in a few photos.

I’m surprised she always has red polish. lol

  8. I dont her personally but as soon as I see her picture I get the feeling that she is an unhappy un satisfied lady who is angry with every one and every thing and her smile, I am so so sorry to say this, is the worst smile ever, if you watch her on talkshows you know what I mean, she forces herself to smile and it so fake and so not ntural

  9. @P & P – Why have you stated that Jaya Bachchan above is stealing the show? This is a genuine question and not a sarcastic one. I admire you guys immensely for your persistence (and competence) with this blog/website, but sometimes I cannot understand your comments. What did you find so note-worthy in the above pic?

Jaya looks like a grumpy old woman in an ordinary sari (sorry for the harsh words). Nothing is great in the above picture: the hair style is bad, saree is sadly draped, a bad purse (if thats what it is). I wont comment on the expression, since she was likely not posing for the shutterbugs. I would have expected you to express disappointment over Jaya’s lost opportunity to really shine in the sari

  10. SExyDevil,
The color is rich and looks great on her. This photograph isnt the best but the best we could find for the moment. At first glance, loved it on her.

  11. I think she is looking better than usual.. I think she has lost some weight too from her face.. I love the color .. and i guess the red nails and the bangle – well she is trying to be stylish..

Payal – I dont know if you saw pics of her on that abu sandeep first wives show – but she was wearing red and looked even better than this I think!

  12. I agree! This is such an improvement over the sad pastels that she wears. She’s got the sari and the jewelery right. Now she needs to fix the hair+makeup and she’ll look even better!
I don’t see the big deal about her expression. She is obviously not posing, this picture seems to have been clicked when she was frowning. Don’t you ladies ever frown??

  13. Whoa, based on these comments it must be sad to be an older woman in India who is not into fashion.

As I see it Jaya has never been a stylish woman and is someone who is plain spoken and dresses plainly. She does not smile a lot which is fine. Not every one walks around smiling – some people just have serious faces. From interviews with people who have worked with her, they mention that she is a nice warm person not grumpy even if she looks grumpy. lol

I do wish she would style her hair and wear nice plain saris for events.

  14. oo ok no worries.. any idea what designer it is just for my curiousity? There’s a pic of her in a white outfit as well which I absolutely love!

  15. Yes we frown but this has become a habit of Jaya who hardly ever smiles, the worst was at Drona’s release or music release where PC was huggin her and she just stands as a wooden statue.

    she has always been different:)

  17. It’s really an okay looking saree. Nothing fab about it, esp. with the wide array of colors, designs Kanchivaram silks are available in these days..

  18. The sari is in a lovely color, and just the fact that is an unfussy traditional kanchivaram makes it a yay. I’d love to see more of the contemporary actresses in saris like this, rather than the slinky or blingy ones, pretty as they can sometimes be.

  19. I love it on her…she looks great
I think that her face is really like that!- you know, some people look like their frowning when they have a neutral expression – she’s never seemed grumpy in interviews and I can’t imagine Abhishiek growing up with a grumpy mom (have you SEEN him talk?)
also, she seemed like she was in the middle of something so…

  20. It’s a nice sari but I am tired of this blue. A tasteful rusty rose/peach might have been nice. I agree that I’d have loved to see her smiling. I can’t seem to remember any pic where she is. It really would have made a big difference in her overall look.

  21. The sari is very ordinary and its not draped well.. if you go to any simple south indian function, you’ll find every other lady in a similar sari…

  22. I am glad u praised a sari like this. In the overblinged chiffon, georgette world of sarees today, it’s refreshing to see praises pouring for a traditional silk saree.

  23. I think she looks fine.

Definitely prefer this over the loud pink number she wore the other day. This suits her and, besides, what are you all complaining about? You can’t, possibly, expect her to wear an evening gown now. Plus Jaya’s never been a fashion icon… she’s like Kajol. Both don’t seem to care too much about their appearences and I think it’s fine as long as you’re comfortable in your own skin.

  24. She looks good. I think it’s time we let go of how her expressions are captured in the camera. The comments that are made on Jaya by other celebs and how her children are, make me feel that she is a great mother and a warm person. It’s unfortunate that the photos of her usually show a grumpy or annoyed face.

  25. A traditional original Kanchi saree is supposed to have toussels at the end, as far as I know. This one looks like a cheap imitation.
And the red nails and the necklace and hair – OMG!
I prefer Jaya in pastals and smiles.

  26. Back in the day Madhuri and Sri and more of thier contemporaries wore traditional sarees to functions and they looked awesome, Jaya used to look the same except since she has entered politics its taken over her personality

  27. i can ignore the irritated exression (she isnt posing for the cameras here), but the sari, nail paint, clunky astrologer ring (ick!) are ANYTHING BUT a “show stealer”. PnP – you girls are serious bachchan fans, eh? cute 🙂
