Shruti and Mini, both attended the Ethnic Designer Of The Year event where the former served as judge and the latter as the host. The event also included a fashion show by Shruti Sancheti which is mostly likely why both ladies wore outfits by her.

What was surprising though was that both sported the same belted sari look. Having sported a belted sari look just the day before at AIFW, we are surprised Mini opted to do another similar look so soon.

Anyhoo, between the two who do you think nails the look better? Our vote goes to Shruti. While Mini looked nice, the long earrings just made her already busy sari look busier. We also didn’t quite care for the exposed boots. Shruti was also in boots but it only really showed when she walked. Check it out here. She really nailed the edgy look with that hairdo and punk accessories.

  1. Shruti looks great. The black belt makes for a nice contrast. Mini’s blouse looks too loose, her earrings seem off and I think it’s due to the closed neck of the blouse and the belt doesn’t define her waist and those boots peeking degraded the overall appearance even more.

  2. They both look equally bad… Somehow i don’t understand these kind of looks… it’s like wearing rocker-chic leather outfit and finishing off with kohlapuri chappals, traditional gold jewellery and flowers in hair! Great for editorials… But will that be OK for normal sightings? Of course not, Then how is this OK?

They both look very ill put-together, noting fits, drapes are sloppy, shoes and belts and jewellery… everything is all over the place.

    • It depends on what you define as “normal sightings” ? Going to the market to buy vegetables – yes this will not be acceptable. Going to a regular family wedding. Perhaps still not acceptable. But you are a high level advertising professional and have a big reveal meeting or a designer (fashion, web, graphic) going to meet a client, these looks would be acceptable in India. I know of quite some quirky dressers – even in sarees !

  3. Loving both the looks on both these gorgeous ladies. Both carry off their sarees with their own panache and personality.
While I love Shruti’s Mad Max style hairstyle, Mini’s idea to wear the saree a nitch higher to show off her platform boots was a great idea!

  4. Though not a fan of the ugly belt, with the right accessories and Shruti being Shruti makes that look work. Mini should probably get off that stool before she trips.

  5. I cannot stomach these belted sari looks. They both look uncomfortable, like they know they look crap. The sari’s themselves are lovely material and print. Love the colours. Hate the styling

  7. I am getting tired of this daku rani rocker gal mashup look, specially on Mini. Those badass boots are making it worse,
I like both the saris, by themselves

  8. I rarely get on and read comments that follow a post and I must say it blew my mind. That people are so rude and unforgiving to the ones who brave the spotlight. Are the people who comment always manage to dress tickety boo perfect for every event? Do they never take risks and try out different looks when they want to experiment?? So why kill those who have to do this in the spotlight??

I’m a saree purist myself but sometimes even I try and see how the look can be stretched to make it more acceptable as a garment to the younger lot. Sometimes it works . Sometimes it does not. But some of the faceless people who comment here really hit below the belt.
Sometimes it’s a designers vision that you are representing and you gotta run with that. Sometimes the drape goes awry from the 2 hour drive as you tumble straight on to the red carpet. Not everyone has a stylist attached to their hip. Sometimes it’s their OWN sense of fashion that has the power to generate interest.
You’re welcome to post whether it worked for you or didn’t and why but please try not to pms into cyberspace by making personal attacks.
Fashion is not an absolute entity . Nothing is completely correct or an anathema. And no one… NOONE has the autonomy or authority to decide what is perfect for everyone else.

So I suggest some of you vile mouthed people calm down and enjoy the world of dress up …

    • Mini i really don’t think anyone is being vicious or vile, these are not below the belt or personal comments. The moderators wouldn’t allow it in the first place. Just say you unfortunately haven’t learnt to handle criticism even after all these years being a celebrity. Peace be with you.

    • I don’t see a single comment that’s directed personally. Yes there are comments about your outfit, and I find most of them valid (differing tastes, you see!!). You are a celebrity, and the moment you and your outfit step out into the public domain, you are going to be the target of comments – some positive, and some negative. That’s part and parcel of being a celebrity.
By the way, I didn’t see you thanking anyone for the largely positive comments that are directed at many of your outfits, that compliment your sense of style.
