In Sabyasachi

It was no surprise to see Vidya in a Sabyasachi . It was, though, to see Shahana in one. More so, because we saw her do the Sabya lehenga look just a few months ago in red ( see here ). She may have massacred that look with an overdose of red but this time she got it right!

P.S. Shahana is wearing jewellery by Anmol.

  1. Why can’t Vidya dress more age appropriate? This is what my grandmother would wear to a fancy party. Even my mother would not want to touch this.

Just because she’s heavier than the industry norm doesn’t mean she has to dress like a grandma. Stop it, Vidya.

    • While I am not a fan of this particular sari (which is however better than black nets saris) or Vidya’s dressing style, saying that a heavy handloom is “grandma” style is incorrect.

It is possible to be young and hate nets, chiffons, Manish Malhotra, sequins, bandage dresses etc etc purely on aesthetic grounds. Some of us actually prefer handlooms, printed silks and the like and don’t want to reserve it for when we are old and grey simply because some anon stranger on the Net thinks its “grandma” fashion.

Get over it folks. Handlooms and silks have been around forever on the subcontinent and there is no need to consign them to the old simply because they have …er…a long history. Also saying this is worn by maids, grandmas, mamis, aunties etc etc is not fashion criticism – its simply a display of prejudices.

      • I totally agree that our traditional weaves are far more attractive than the nets and MM sarees and the blingy things. This saree, however, reminds me of the lungis that Mehmood used to wear.
