In Abu-Sandeep

As comments have proven each time, some of you are bound to love this look, and others hate it just as fervently. Me? Am on the fence. Personally, the Abu Sandeep look (Dress? Kurta?) is not my cup of tea, not at all. That said, Aishwarya doesn’t look as overwhelmed in it as I expected her to. Not that it means much.

How I wish she had offset all that’s going on with her outfit by opting for less statement-y earrings, softer lips and hair worn away from her face. If she had to have some hair framing her face, she could’ve always done a wispy, romantic updo or a wide, loose side-braid… Something, anything over the voluminous mass of red-brown on her shoulders.

  1. I like it but don’t love it. Thankfully its not bright pink which is what Abu Sandeep love to dress her in

Looks like she’s slowly losing the weight

  2. Not overwhelming.. are you kidding? You guys are soooo neutral when it comes to Aishwarya. It sounds fake. This is an awful garish outfit. She is such a pretty woman. Why on earth does she wear long sleeved OTT glittered gown/anarkali with duppatta. With a face like that she did not need to be the the shiniest person around! I hope you showcase Deepika’s outfit cos she looks hot, and Ash would have looked so good in a similar outfit.

  3. No just no. And again No.

Ms Rai is a stunning woman, she should keep it all – clothes, makeup, jewellery – simple to let that shine through. Something she just hasn’t mastered.

  4. umm, what? She looks pretty neck up, but it’s a reaaally bad dress/suit/lehenga. I highly doubt a better hairdo would have helped at all.

  5. Agree with whoever that said she should have exchanges clothes with Jaya Bachchan, after all it is her husbands’ birthday. As Aishwarya ages, her clothes and choices are getting tackier

  7. AHH!! MY EYES! If she wanted to do Gold, she should have done it the Swetha Nanda way..This is..AHHH!! and please you guys always take on Madhuri for tacky..don’t be sooo neutral abt this. Shilpa dresses well after giving birth, so does Lara. Weight is not the issue here..

  8. Agree, its not about the weight at all! Nothing can excuse these bad choices, if she wanted gold should’ve opted for an elongating dress in a soft fabric rather than this cardboard-y material.
Can’t even look directly at this outfit! So frustrating…and that lipstick shade…WHY?
    PLEASE HIRE A STYLIST

  9. It still amazes me to see all these people endorsing AJ-SK outfits….time and time again on these pages it has been proved that they are completely unflattering

  10. Has she no friends who could have told here to not this to herself? She would look so lovely in a chikan work saree or the kind of clothes Tabu was wearing to the same event.

  11. This is really overwhelming. The bad kurta/dress aside, i hate the hair. Its this kate middleton style way-too-volumnus-mess. Just a half up do would give it so much shape. She thought its her FIL’s bday, so its time to go all out and came up with this.

  12. Oh god. Oh god, oh god. I never thought I’d say this but I pity the poor woman. Can she not take tips from her always classy and well-turned-out sister-in-law?

  13. yikes! ash is such a bling junky! i still think the outfit would’ve looked good if the kurta were shorter and showed off some plain colored churidar, and what is with those sleeves that instead of hiding just emphasise the size of her arms? gah! not a good look!

  14. This is a HORRIBLE outfit. Not sure though whose fault this is: Abu Sandeep for designing such a disaster or Ash for choosing to wear it (she may have decided to dress in line with the rest of the women of the house but ack, she should have put her foot down when she saw this ensemble). She looked better in Sabya in Cannes. Tactastic!! Give me some sunglasses someone, I’m blinded!

Why Aishwarya Why???…one after another you come up with these hedious dresses…I don’t even knw how to defend you…neck up ~devine..but the dress…my eyes!!!take a cue from Shilpa Shetty if you r still not comfortable with your post pregnancy figure…can’t come up with excuses for you this time..

  16. If I’d be Aish, I would have fired Abu Sandeep long time ago to dress me like tent every single time. With a face like this, she would look drop dead gorgeous even in “chithda” (i.e rag)

  17. So irritated with people’s comments. Aishwarya is ALWAYS hated on no matter what she wears. When she wears a kaftan at Cannes – people say she’s trying to hide her body, when Shilpa wears a kaftan people say “omg Ash should take tips from Shilpa”.

When she wears something simple like her outfits at the UN events (which I thought were quite nice – the red, the simple anarkali she wore outdoors and even the Gucci dress were all great choices as even P&P stated!!) she was hated on for her positioning of hands and choosing long sleeves for NYC and she was hated on for the color red by HHC readers!

When she wore the Sabyasachi in London which I thought she looked beautiful people said she’s hiding behind yards of fabric – like COME ON everyone in Bollywood wears those but when she does she’s “hiding” and they’re “layers” of fabric. It’s ridiculous.

While I agree that some of her sartorial choices are not nice – that black floral outfit she wore at Antilla – it’s just way too much hypocrisy and negativity directed towards one woman no matter WHAT she wears.

In regards to this particular outfit – it is blingy – which is a change from what she wore to the UN – and she probably coordinated with Shweta who was equally blingy and just didn’t want to be underdressed for her family’s party. And no offence P&P but if she wore a loose side braid you guys would say it’s not a formal enough hair do.

Oh how I wish Aish would go back to her old style of dressing I’m talking prior to having a baby.
However in her defense, I will say that considering the event she was dressed appropriately and compared to what SOME people were wearing(Amisha,Kalki,Kajol, all the aunties), Aishwarya was dressed quite nice. Plus I think these are horrible pics. I’ve seen pics of the same dress where she looks good.
But I can see where ppl are coming from when they say they don’t like it. It’s doesn’t fit everyone’s taste. I wouldn’t wear it, but on some ppl it may look good.I think the problem with sparkly dresses is it doesn’t photograph well.

    • Gasp! You are doubting the 50 responses above? Not once did I read “hate” (ok except one , and that too was quite funny). It is a terrible outfit. She has looked marvelous many times and majority of HHC followers have stated that. I think most of us are confused, frustrated, sometimes amused because Aishwarya has access to so many talented Indian designers & stylists choose from. Her loyalty to AbuJani is almost admirable but is not working for her. And I very much doubt she coordinated with Sweta. I am only stating this because both ladies have very, very different tastes.

      • I agree, I have always been a fan of hers..so I am not hating either (like the others) but since this is a FASHION blog – her style sense is just totally haywire these days.Yes she has had some good days, but she has access to EVERY designer in the world…. why would she consciously try to look like a diamond covered tent?! She’s not even fat but in this outfit even Deepika would look heavy!!

    • Phoenix, I appreciate your comment and also your response to my comment on Ash’s pix at the UN. I think the difference is this: Ash has always got away because of her beautiful face. she’s also been naturally slim and so has never had to work on her body the way the Shilpas of Bollywood (not being as blessed as Ash) have had to. similarly, Ash has never been concerned about clothes. all of which is fine — but that also means she continues to be clueless re: dressing her changed figure. and now, without that natural beauty and slimness to carry her thru, the negative (lack of dress sense) seems more obvious and ergo attracts more criticism.

  18. The clothes designed for the Bachchan clan for this event was a huge disappointment at least for me coz all I saw is volumes of fabric !!! whilst it showcases the intricate works it fails to give the person wearing it a lift. For instance we cant even figure out what Ash is wearing….dress , kurta or upholstery fabric !!!! and Velvet seems to have grown on like AB Snr’s like skin ..its sooo yesterday. Whilst the family went for a desi look..AB Jnr seemed to have done a coup de tat by wearing gold tux !!! In my opinion i think some of the invited guests were much better dressed. Jaya’s outfit also didnt do much made her look much more rounder !!! Shweta carried her outfit wel because of her height, makeup and styling otherwise her dress on its own was so blah !!

  19. Oh my good good lord… What mesmerism have this designer duo worked on this clan? Does anyone outside of the Bacchans even patronise them any more? Actually, with clueless clients like this, why even look elsewhere…. They’re set up for life.
