Sangeet Style

For the Sangeet ceremony, it was a red lehenga by Manish Malhotra for the bride and a blue sherwani by Karan Johar-Varun Bahl for the groom. Uncle Aamir was also in a Karan Johar-Varun Bahl creation while Kiran is in Sabyasachi.

  1. I know people are going to go crazy over velvet. i always do but despite velvet the sherwani looks good. great coloour and nice work. And of course he looks yummy but not so much as his mama :). Love Aamir..and his kurta looks awesome.

    • I agree, the kurta on Aamir looks great! Really nice but what the heyyy with those shoes?!!! Someone please tell these boys you DO NOT wear western shoes with indian outfits! And i hate those overly pointed brown shoes on Aamir which seem to be quite worn out at the front!!! I’m happy for the family though, congrats to the couple! They all look happy which is far more important than the clothes, but please Kiran – enough promoting your movie… looks like she came straight from Dhobi Ghat! eek

  2. Her dupatta is worn so weirdly..

What’s with the push-up bra and cleavage display ?

Why isnt she wearing a necklace ?

Her whole look is really messy !!

  3. Kiran could have done way better. Not liking her outfit at all, a bit shapeless. Reminds me of those “pavadai chattais” that girls in Tamilnadu wear when they are young. Also is that a velvet blouse on her? Eeeeks!

Imran looks delicious despite the velvet. Aamir is such a stunner. Love his kurta.

Avantika looks pretty in the red. A little blingy but it’s her wedding after all.

  4. Ok that whole picture is such a mess. It’s almost like Kiran and Imran’s clothes are to be paired and Avantika and Aamir’s are to be paired. So weird. Kiran’s outfit is terrible as is Avantika’s. The two guys look delectable.

    • I agree the couples look mismatched . The guys look really good, avantika is ok except for the weird dupatta. Kiran is pretty bad, very messy and all over the place.

      • Definitely agree with you!
The guys look SOOO GOOD!! But the girls definitely don’t. Avantika’s dupatta is a complete mess and I don’t like Kiran’s outfit at all. It makes her look a lot bigger than she is!!

        • Yup totally with you guys on this one. Hate how the dupatta is draped and even the jhoomer is not worn as well as it could be. Traditionally you should have a tikka and a jhoomer i thought??
Anyway Kiran is always trying to be kitsch and it doesnt always work. The guys look hot even though i dont like velvet. But all this aside, congrats to the happy couple!!

      • yes agree. Avantika’s outfit is fine…but that duppatta is Precariously placed on her shoulder. I cant get over it. If i was there, i wld have a impulsive urge to push it up in the right place !!!

Kiran and Aamir look pretty good. And though i am not a fan of velvet, the overall outfit on imram looks good.

  5. Aamir looks amazing, love his outfit. He totally steals the limelight! I love the white+ bling combo! He has Style!!!
Also loved Kiran Rao’s necklace, it is gorgeous.

Of course, the happy couple is nondescript. They look good, but really just like any other couple. Aamir and wife steal the show.

  6. Oh my! Although neck up the bride-to-be is GORGEOUS, I don’t know what to make of her outfit. SOMEONE please fix her dupatta!
Imran looks dapper (I am choosing to look beyond the velvet issue!)
Kiran, oh the things I can say- i don’t know- it just seems, for a lack of a better word- mess. If it had been draped/ fitted properly- I would have liked it better- there is just too much colour going on there.
Aamir looks perfect minus the beard. It is just my taste, i like my men clean shaven. But oh my, the shewaani is droolworthy.

Having said that- the best of wishes to the couple! Hope they have an amazing married life.

  7. the dupatta is worn weirdly, but she gets a free pass for the day. whats really weird is kiran, who looks awful. whats with the glasses? she’s always trying to look odd and she succeeds.
    imran looks so good.

  8. That’s a Sabya lehenga? That’s disappointing.

I love Avantika’s look. It’s simple yet traditional. Despite the velvet, Imran looks very handsome. Love Aamir’s kurta….and he asked if he looks better than the groom…yes you do…Imran can never be that good looking 😉

  9. LOVE amir and Imran’s outfits. There is something off about Kiran’s look. I do like the color of Avantika’s outfit, very understated/beautiful. What I do not like is the fall of her skirt, too much volume for her frame.

  10. OK! Am i in a wrong era or something? WHY is EVERYONE sporting velvet these days? Where’s the policy of learning from other’s mistakes gone?
    Clean-shaven IMRAN + Sherwani = total WIN!
IMRAN + VELVET SHERWANI = BLECH!!!

looks like the designer made Imran’s first & decided to use the leftovers for Kiran.. pic is very messed up!
& OH HELL – someone get AVANTIKA a safety pin NOW! she doesnt look like a BRIDE! eww eww!

having said that, congrats to the couple & all the best!

  11. i love the fact dat avantika didnt wear a heavy duty neck piece like some other brides…shes looking lovely…as are the men…hating kirans look though…it wont hurt her to make an effort sometimes u know…

  12. Imran, Avantika and Aamir look good. Love that Avantika kept the jewellery simple and make the dress stand out. Love the jewellery she has on her hair.
Kiran looks dowdy ! Just because she wears a Sabya does not mean that velvet and pinkish lehenga monstrosity starts looking good.

  13. draping is wrong on every single level…if u wanna to look different might aswell wear a sari nd drape ir like this, it would have been better.

i think imran nd wife looks beautiful. i love the jewelry and the jumar…i wore jumar on my wedding.. i love it
OH i wish they would have left RED for the actual wedding day.

  14. Love Avantikas lehnga, it looks grand without being too stone- encrusted and gaudy ala Shilpa Shetty. The men look handsome and Kirans outfit is lovely except shes worn it so badly, and I do wish she’d try out some contact lenses once in a while, those glasses are very distracting with such an outfit. i should know – contacts changed my life!

    Reply
    • Unfortunately not everybody can wear contact lenses – some people have cornea deformity, etc. and contacts won’t fix it. I think we should respect the fact that she wears glasses and look beyond that. It might just be her style – the way some people only wear black shoes or love wearing dark blue jeans.

      • I agree completely…Good point, Purple…And another point is simply the fact that some people do like themselves with glasses on…Case in point is myself- I have powerful glasses that I wear 24/7 because they’re extremely comfortable as compared to lens…For one, I don’t have to fear infections. For another, I can nap at work or any place else without worrying about anything..And chronic lens use in people with very myopic eyes (such as myself) can cause possible damage (e.g. recent case of a man in Canada whose corneal stem cells got damaged due to lens use…He was lucky he could get stem cells from his sister and fix his defect)…

        • agreed. can’t imagine poking things in my eyes. what’s wrong with glasses? i don’t think it takes anything away from anyone’s beauty.

  15. Good wishes to the couple..hope they have a happy married life..
Kiran’s outfit is a bit too costumey-ish and reminds me of the banjaras and women in the rural based shows on TV these days..and spl the specs..i know she has to see ( i wear a pair as well) but while getting pics taken for the public..hmmm…!!

  16. This is such a happy picture it made me smile!!

Avantika and Imran (despite velvet) look smashing. I think Avantika’s dupatta just fell a little for the photo. After all it can get overwhelming with all that is going on.

Aamir maamu looks HOT! I wish he would dress similarly for some movie as well, so we could see more of him like this.

Kiran’s blouse, sorry Sabya, is beyond redemption. Any way she would have draped it, it would have looked bad. She has accessorized very well. I don’t mind her specs as it is her trademark.

  17. Imran comes out looking good despite the velvet overdose. Avantika’s lehenga doesnt match her frame. She looks huge in it. Like someone mentioned earlier, why so much clevage show? Ew. Aamir is so handsome in that white sherwani. That Sabya lehenga is a mess on Kiran Rao. Pavada chattai in it’s silk glory is so beautiful and it’s a shame that the designer couldn’t come up with better fabric for that style of traditional wear.

  18. Like Kiran’s dressed up look:
    specifically, that she chooses to wear her glasses (being someone with glasses myself and quite fond of them, I can’t understand people’s obsession with contacts);

Also, that her dresses up look is not so far removed from her regular look, and
that she chooses to forego any apparent makeup.

Also, her ghaghra is more similar to traditional ones: where the choli is very modest and not a navel-baring one and the ghaghra is not excessively voluminous like the recent-evening-gown-inspired versions sold by the dozen.

I do wish the velvet was replaced by a black silk blouse, though I love the design of the choli right down to the 3/4 sleeves.
Yeah, I am truly attached to the traditional, unadulterated version of Indian outfits.

  19. I also love that with a diaphanous veil, Kiran’s worn a modest choli. I like that contrast as compared to wearing a bra-sque choli with a diaphanous veil.
Again, before fashionistas badger me with comments calling me a “bhenji”, I’d like to reiterate my love for traditional, unadulterated desi clothes, and sensible, modest fashion….To each his own…:-)

  20. Imran looks really good…not a big fan of velvet, but he wore it well.

Avantika could have worn some neck piece, to complete the look…thought ppl left the reds and maroons for the actual wedding and more fun outfits for sangeet…but hey, it’s her wedding.

Aamir Khan does look really good for his age!!

Kiran Rao…hideous!! We know she has a quirky sense of style, but this is downright gaudy. This outfit makes her look twice her size. And at the risk of sounding bitchy, she looks like some village extra in our Hindi movies…a la Lagaan 🙂

  21. Wait.. Is it just me or does Avantika’s head look like it dosen’t belong to her body. It looks too small in proportion to her body. Or maybe the outfit makes it look that way. A long necklace would have helped her neck look longer.

  22. I loved Avantika’s dress and the look, except for the pallu draping. I’m all for properly covered/nothing showing kinda draping. I especially liked that she did not wear a thick necklace, like one would expect from most brides-to-be. And Kiran – OMG! She needs a fashion intervention. Pronto!!

  23. never realised aamir was so short. or that imran was so tall.

dont like any of the clothes (except for aamir’s outfit, minus the shoes and the dupatta).

  24. This look is so not kiran ….. i like her quirky stuff …. here she looks like imran’s mummyji who went to the tailor with the latest magazine in hand to get herself a “designer” lehnga…..

And all the velvet …… urghhhhhhh ….. bollywood should take a season break from sabya …. too much of him and lately very little is flaterring ………. i’m liking only amir out of the four

  25. Love the design on the sherwani (despite the horrid velvet everywhere pheonomenon happening iin bollywood). The first think I thought after seeing Aamir and Kiran was: why do they look like my grandparents? The mish-mash o0f colours on Kiran’s outfit and the velvet blouse looks bad.

  26. Aamir looks the best! love his sherwani very classy! on the other hand, his wifey is a different story, looks like a TV serial’s bua.

Funnily,Imran’s velvet compliments Kiran’s velvet (awfully draped with gujrati style dupatta) while Avantika-seems her duapatta is outa place, never mind it’s her day.Although i wish she had worn a necklace-or even a chain!

  27. My hearty congrats to the couple!!!
On an aside, I think “Mamu” surely rocks. With the velvet overdose, Imran has added on years, not liking it a bit. His black pants against the velvet looks completely mismatched…unless its a lighting effect. The bride looks lovely but that duppatta is just out of place and there was nothing wrong in adding on a necklace ( a simple one albeit). Its her wedding day and going over the top doesnt hurt anybody. Kiran mami on the other hand…SIGH …I would have dressed up my “bai” like that.

  28. Congrats to the happy couple. Having said that, whats with Avantika’s outfit…worst dressed bride I have ever seen (…and ppl where critical of Sania Mirza) Except for Imran others all look …oh well what shud I say …not good. And someone plz get a stylist for Kiran Rao

  29. Kiran Rao should have definitely left her owlish glasses at home..they’re totally ruining the look.
I wear glasses too, but would never wear them on such and occasion and on that outfit, even if I kept banging into walls all day….
