Iman, who plays the lead in the upcoming Ms. Marvel series, was seen at the premiere wearing an aubergine Gaurav Gupta gown. Loved that she picked a South Asian designer for her big event and more so that she wore the gown her way, with sneakers.

I personally love sneakers. They look chic, at the same time super comfy. But there are certain clothes and ocassions which demand sleek footwear. Not every outfit goes well with sneakers like in this case.

And why are you calling Gaurav Gupta South Asian…he is Indian, shouldn’t hurt you to say that. Never seen you call YSL or LV “European” fashion labels.
It narrows down the region. Globally when we say Asian people associate it with China, Japan etc and South Asian refers to India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh. And this blog does have a wide audience. Not everything has to tenuous.
Because the actor is Canadian-Pakistani. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that if she picked this designer because of geographic allegiance, it was because of their shared South Asian identify, and not Indian.

She looks good! But I have seen better finished Gaurav Gupta gowns that might have made a much stronger impacct.
Pairing with the sneakers was a boss move. She made the look her own!
It’s very cool to see young girls wearing sneakers with formal gowns.
They can get away with unconventional combos that might look juvenile on older women.
