    • Half saree function is not puberty function. In Telangana they don’t do half saree functions. They do saree function for girls when they reach age 10 and dhoti function for boys. But they are not mandatory. Not everybody does them. Nothing to be embarrassed by these functions. They need an occasion to celebrate and feast, that’s it.

    • Really, for whom? A community gathering together celebrating the coming of age of a girl or boy? See it in the light of a time when physiological changes were not eeks, or www but were greeted with cheer and love and were announced from the roof tops. Baptisms, quinceanara, debut balls, navjot, thread ceremonies, langa voni, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs these are ocassions from people in a given community to gather and greet the newest member. Do try and get over yourself.

  1. Half-saree function does not make quite the sense anymore. Pavda Dhavanis(half-sarees) are now worn by even brides for the wedding, pretty much by anyone in any age group. Just a reason to burn cash I guess. 😛 Hamsa looks lovely. Ms.Manchu tries to wear everything in her dresser at one go. lol.

  2. Instead of criticising this function, isn’t it great to see our culture celebrating a girls coming of age, instead of treating it as something shameful to be hidden.

  3. Leaving the function reasoning behind .. out of the 3 :: Manchu scares me as usual, Hamsa’s saree has a lot of jarring colors (or maybe it’s the pic) and Anushka looks the most decent.

  4. Half saree function is called ‘Voni panduga’ , only telugu people do it. It is a coming of age celebration, done mostly when the girl turns 11 and some times at 13 years of age. No this is not a party to celebrate puberty. At puberty the mom and aunts feed the girl special sweets and bless her. They pray to god to give her a good husband. This is a very intimate in the house thing. The half saree or oni function is a celebration, usually do it at 11 before the girl attains puberty.
