Served Up Two Ways

Ms. Chopra’s jacket (featuring actresses in their screen bridal avatars) brought back memories of Geeta who wore a sari featuring famous screen close-ups and so we’ve got to ask now, how do you like your ‘kitsch’?

  1. The saree on the left is by Satya Paul. They have a prettier one in pink featured on their website. This one is quite ugly. Ill take that (pink) one and this jacket.

  2. While I don’t like the dress paired with the jacket, an individual piece it works far, far better than the sari.

Kitsch can very easily descend to cheap if it isn’t executed properly and the sari is an excellent example of that.
The print needs a refined color palette and well-textured fabric to pass muster.

While the pastel colors and the quality fabric of the jacket make it work, the gaudy colors and flimsy material make the sari look like a poster plastered on a street corner for a D-grade bollywood movie
