The Royals

Gauravi and Padmanabh attended the Met Gala as a guest of Prabal Gurung who also helped design their looks for the event. Prabal took one of Gauravi’s grandmother’s (the Maharani Gayatri Devi) chiffon sari and made a sari gown out of it. Am I the only one who dislikes the transformation? I get trying to do an updated look on the pink chiffon and pearls but the simplicity that made the look a classic on the Maharani just comes of looking tacky on Gauravi because of the gown design and the excessive jewels.

As for Padmanabh, the phulgar coat was a nice pick but given the layering, you either finish out with a turban and complete the look or just go for a bandhgala look. He probably was trying to avoid comparisons to Diljit from last year but I don’t think he could escape it at all.

  1. Beards need to be stopped.. they’re hiding good looking men behind age and dust. Diya looks sweet, really like her look.. Padmanabh looks like he walked out of his kothi mid way drinks n night sleep.

  2. They should not be referred as royals, they are not. India is a democratic country. You can always say erstwhile royals, but not royals. They were born in Independent democratic India, and no amount of glossing over or creative freedom make it okay to refer to them as royals.

    • This! Exactly this! I can’t comprehend that mankind in 2026 still wants to rank some low achieving normies higher than the general population purely basis birth. Just to satisfy a primitive deity fetish. Calling timeless classical pieces alluding to discerning taste “classy” “regal” “elite” “royal”? Reeks of low self esteem and indicates a person is a social climbing wannabe.

  4. A gorgeous vintage saree utterly destroyed by the designer and muse 🙁 The resplendent original version with subtle accessories would’ve translated into exquisite art right there…and instead :(… Really annoyed with the butchering of the saree by Prabal Gurung an eye sore of a design that’s more Shilpa Shetty than Maharani Gayatri.

Padmanabh I think tried to go for a Dhurandar vibe incl the beard, but turned out a hot mess. Don’t like anything about the outfit and its so far out from the MET theme. In addition the couple looks very disjoint together. Not asking matchy much coordination, but a subtle tie in at the least would have been good instead of this Disney meets Marvel vibe.
