As fun as the Balmain pic is, loving the Marc Jacobs pic so much more.

  1. Omg from a single bedroom flats in malad to the cover of NYT Style magazine(in just 2 yrs). She truly deserves this exposure.Im so happy to know that pinto is the first Asian(not just in south asia) to be featured on the cover of famous fashion mag in America and too in special september issue.I wish this opens door many dark indian models who won’t get the same recognition in there own country

  2. @sassgirl…there are so many beauties in india of various hues. yet, ms.pinto happened to be there at the right place at the right time in the age of globalization. slumdog pulled at the strings poignantly, it is what the west would like to see of india. as latika, freida milked the story line, the younger latikas’ vulnerabilities. she is a totally lucky girl. i wish she would realize that in her interviews where she disses india in very veiled ways. were it not for india, there would not be the curiosity that is freida.
having said that, i wish her all the best.it is a matter of pride to see a desi at the top. i just hope she does not cultivate that obsequious, fawning over the west attitude as seen in the recent interviews.

    • I partially agree with you. While I think it’s wrong that she doesn’t acknowledge the immense role the country of India played in making her a success, I do think she is justified in her bitterness towards the Indian film industry. The sad truth is that a woman with her looks and complexion would rarely be cast as a lead in a major Indian film – without, of course, extra measures taken to alter her features.

It’s apparent, though, that she values recognition in Hollywood more than its Indian counterpart. She is surely not a Nandita Das or a Konkona Sen – actors who have worked immensely to create a niche in Indian film that can accommodate those with more “unconventional features” (by Bollywood standards)

      • I agree… with her looks she would have found it difficult to make it in Bollywood… and thats the sad and frank truth of things… cast in any Bolly movie even today you would see her caked with white make up. I mean even the more mainstream Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu get caked on
But on the flip side – we all have different notions of beauty.
As far as dissing india… cant really blame her for “rubbing the noses” of the people who snubbed her in her struggling days!

  3. Does the Balmain dress really cost $19,210? That could lead someone to a life long debt. The 2nd pic hardly shows of the dress but anyway.

  4. I like the first pic. It does justice to the dress. Even though the second pic is more aesthetically shot, I wish I could see more of the dress.

  6. hmmm…not liking them too much..the hair is all messy..covering the face in not so nice way..reminds me of my own unkempt hair 😉 and why wear $$ designer dresses when they are not even the picture and you have to see the runway pic to see what it actually is

  7. So blah! I m not sure what they were trying with the second pic but it looks like a scene out of ‘Intervention’ Doesnt do justice to Ms Pinto or the dress

  8. I love how much people can’t stand Ms. Pinto *smirk*

I love both pictures and they are brilliant at representing the different of facets of her personality. Fun and vivacious in one, soft and vulnerable in another.
