  1. Love the hair+makeup+shoes.
The chains give the dress an edge but when the rest of her is so normal and regular, the chains look awkward.

  3. What is awesome about this dress? There is no design here unless you think chains on a blah frock is edgy. These designers are ripping people off.

Freida looks tired and boring. I’m sick of the pose too.

  4. Debs, I agree. I think she is enjoying every moment of this. And I think that bothers some people. But eventually, she won’t be the new “it” girl, and that will go to someone else. She better take this now. 2 years ago it was Jennifer Hudson, and 2 years before that, it was Scarlett Johansson. Once an A-Lister, always an A-Lister, but there’s only one time/chance to ride into Hollywood on that Golden Horse, and clearly, Freida’s doing it!

  6. she’s so bland! And so is the dress, there is literally no detailing on the dress, at least not in the pictures.
Americans find Freida exotic because of her brown skin. But with her plain jane face, she won’t be able to get even an item song in the cut throat world of hindi films. I think Indian magazines are suddenly going gaga over her because the west thinks she is hot: If the west thinks she is hot, then she must be.

  7. I am tired of seeing her as well. It’s a good think Estee Lauder is not really a brand I follow too much. She looks good here though because she is toning down the cheese a little bit and isn’t hamming it up for the cameras for a change!

  8. what a fabulous life! what a lucky girl!
but i dont like this dress! it would have looked beautiful without the beads…i think the stark black beads make it look weird!

  9. LOVE the dress, it’s simple – beautiful – and timeless, VERY Chanel. I agree that she’s doing a lot of B&W, I would love to see her in more colours but this is a strong look none-the-less.

And yes she is everywhere but its the same with any young, hot, new starlet. The furor will die down around her to a more reasonable level eventually.

  10. I should say smashing !
That dress is to die for. & I love the neutral makeup.

    P&P,
About the chains on the dress. Are they attatched or are they brooches?

  11. SHE IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE PROMO LINES FOR HER OWN MOVIE: “ITS DESTINY, ITS WRITTEN”… HOW ELSE CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS!! THATS LUCK REALLY! SHE ALWAYS LOOKS FAB, LOVE HER NATURAL UNCAKED MAKEUP LOOK

  12. ariel001,
The chains/brooch are separate since they were also on another piece from the Pre-Fall 2009 collection. Added the runway pic to the post…

  13. wow, shes certainly come up in the world, attending the chanel fashion show and all- lucky her! She looks really natural yet polished here. These type of outfits really suit her – not everyone can pull off such a look.

  16. Not bad at all. =) With the amount of media appearances this girl has been giving, kudos to her for still looking fresh. This is one whirlwind she wouldn’t want stopping.

  17. Oh, and now Sonam won’t feel too left out, being the only Indian to be specially dressed by Chanel. Freida goes a step ahead. 🙂

  18. Is it just me, or do those platforms look very clunky and overwhelming against her very petite frame?

Anyways, the dress is adorable and clearly in line with Freida’s style (classic dresses with a bit of whimsy). I hate that people think that a face that isn’t caked with tons of makeup is “plain”. Plenty of the item girls in the Indian film industry are probably quite average underneath the colored contacts, dyed hair, and pounds of foundation.

  19. @ zara: I definitely agree with the makeup comment. but those shoes are calling me because I am quite a bit bigger than Freida in height and size, and I could probably do them a bit more justice. All in all though, I think shoes in general for Freida are an afterthought….she always wears these nice designers and then her shows never quite fit or suit her frame… :-\

  20. I love this look. @zara… if you look at the second picture, you can see that Freida is wearing a lot of makeup. the only difference is that her makeup is in neutral shades and the fake lashes are more subtle and she didn’t overload on the eyeliner. I wouldn’t be surprized if she were wearing hazel contact lenses as well.

  21. @kimmy: You nailed it! It seems as if Freida (or her stylist) carefully plans out her hair, makeup and outfit, and just throws on a pair of black platforms. I have no doubt, however, that you would rock those shoes! :o)

@Annie: I’m not denying there’s probably a lot of makeup on Freida. In fact, that “natural look” that celebrities covet require a lot of careful contouring and shading. The main difference is that her makeup doesn’t overpower her face. It enhances her lovely rich, brown eyes (which, in closeup, you can tell are not contacts) and her delicate features.

  23. Oooh I love her makeup! It is so awesome, I didn’t even see the rest of her look.
This makes me want to wear eye-shadow.
Also, I love the black necklace things.

  24. she is looking fabulous..she doesnt confirm to the Indian standards of beauty..but she always looks lovely, has a great bone structure. She is enjying her time in the lime light, nothing wrong with that.

  25. Picture perfect! That’s a classic Chanel dress. sigh… Ms. Pinto certainly rocks her outfits. I’ve said this before on this very site – but what a ticket from Malad to Manhattan this gal’s got 🙂

  26. When I mentioned Frieda’s plain jane face earlier, I meant that without make-up she would not even get a second glance on the street back home because her features are so ordinary.
Actresses such as Preity, Bipasha, Kareena, Lara, Sonam, Deepika etc all have pretty faces. Kajol never puts on make-up but we know there is something special about her because of the way she carries herself. They all have a presence even without putting on make-up and big name dresses. That is the kind of charisma at least the audience back home expects from its stars.
I read somewhere that Frieda was a model, but now everyone says that she is petite so may be she wasn’t into ramp modeling but I’ve never seen her face on a billboard in India till now.

  27. I find it very weird that Frieda’s face is considered to be ordinary, the girl has got beautiful features but since she is not fair or full on sexy she is not considered pretty in India. Here if u re dusky u have to be overtly glam eg bipasha, priyanka to be considered beautiful. She comes across as graceful and articulate, she could have been easily overwhelmed at the big occassions but she has carried herself very well and is making best use of the opportunity that has come her way.

  28. @saum: you said it. And if Freida is a plain Jane, then who would the people calling her that consider ‘pretty’? Not drop-dead-gorgeous like Aishwarya et al (and most Indian girls don’t look like that anyway), but just pretty? I wonder if the Japanese went to town on Rinko Kikuchi last year (following ‘Babel’) just because she got the media spotlight on her…and Rinko was way cooler than Frieda.
That said, the chains are just a bit off on this dress. I like the idea as a detail, but it looks awkward. Her makeup is awesome, though. I wish I could steal her makeup artist to teach me how to do my face.

  29. @Shivani, Maybe not billboards but one advertisement that is still cashing on her popularity (actually more after Slumdog) is SHE, a new/unknown brand of sanitary napkins where her face is on the front pages almost every day telling us how her boss loves her never being tired on those days or something!
