Song Spotting

There was a time when outfits in Hindi movie songs would make you cringe. Remember the 90s?!? Not so anymore and here’s more proof. Beparwah, the only song in Baby features Esha in two black Nikhil Thampi looks. Her first look is a sexy cutout gown and while Esha and it would have been enough, adding more oomph to the look was a statement Eina Ahluwalia necklace and Mrinalini Chandra ring.

Her second look was a one-shouldered cutout gown featuring Thampi’s signature floral embellishments. It only made sense to not add more jewellery to this look.

Of the two, which look of hers from the video do you prefer?

  1. The sad part is that the quality of the songs itself has reduced. No one will remember this song from Baby 10 years from now. but everyone will always know “Mera Piya Ghar Aaya” even though Madhuri’s clothes were in the atrocity competition with her one sided fountain pony.

  2. The first time that I disagree with HHC. Clothes in the 90s were not that bad. The costume designers were not paid big bucks and they used workarounds as much as possible. This whole high fashion thing is not sustainable. Bollywood is also an industry and between sky rocketing actors’ fees and low returns on movies, it’s only time before the high fashion trend is abandoned.

  3. Did it make you cringe back then? I think not. Remember Madhuri’s famous purple sari(hahk), or Kajol’s outfits in ddlj? Everyone thought they were so glam at the time, now you look back and feel they look ridiculous. That was considered fashionable then, and now it looks hideous, everyone wore clothes like that back then with frizzy hair, even in America. Fashion trends change constantly and return revamped.
