Erykah Badu In Manish Arora

Comment image 15

The latest to sport a Manish Arora was singer Erykah Badu who wore a blue dress from the designer’s Spring 2009 ‘Circus’ collection. Most of you ask whether the pieces shown on runway are sold as is in stores. Here is an example of how a piece is toned down for retail wear. I must add that without the frills, the quirkiness that is so ‘Manish’ is partly lost. Especially in this piece.

Thanks ‘HighSnobette’ for the tip-off!

  1. Agreed.. the quirkiness is almost entirely gone without the frills. I much prefer the runway version.. and this is one dress that wasn’t too extreme on the runway to begin with.

  2. I don’t think the quirkiness is missing at all! I mean, where can you find a silly looking dress like this anywhere?

I love it! Erykah is totally rocking this dress, it fits her unique personality. She’s a soul/R&B singer…rock that afro girl! 🙂

  3. I actually love this dress..the one on the left with the frills that is, but I wish the sleeves were different..the sleeves and the frills don’t work together.this would probably look better perhaps without the large gaps on the sleeves? Something different? Not quite sure what, but I guess that’s why I’m not a designer!

  4. I love Erykah, so when I saw her, I was hoping it would be on HHC! P&P, look at it this way- the dress may be turned down, but you can turn it right back up with a huuuge Afro! 😀

  5. @ Pri – I agree with you, I much like the original version of the dress with the frills, minus the weird sleeves!! The color combo used for the frills is just so appealing, and goes damn well with the dress as a whole. Plus since she seems to be on stage, I am sure Erykah could have carried off the original version pretty well, and gotten away with it too, considering she would have tamed her hair!!

  6. why should she tame her hair? afro hair is a part of her personality and her culture

im sick of people looking at curls as its some sort of disease and wanting to change natural curls into poker straight (might i add.. long??) hair as its considered as the epitome of beauty!
