In Nikita Mhaisalkar

At Mandana’s wedding reception, Divya was photographed in a Nikita Mhaisalkar lehenga. Wearing her hair down, she finished out the look with a bindi and silver jewelry from Inaayat. She looked lovely. That said however, all that black at a wedding reception did feel sombre… Blame it on years of conditioning!

  1. Echo the same thought. Infact that was my immediate thought when read the first line ofthis post. All black is not supposed to be worn in wedding festivities!

  2. love that she wore silver to a wedding. as for the black, well, designers have been doing black wedding wear for years now so, while this is still unusual, it’s no longer a taboo as it once was.

  3. Totally agree. It always annoys when people show up in this much black at a Hindu wedding. I mean one can always save it for another occasion.
Such a pity because Divya looked so good in this whole ensemble.

    • This is a bit bizarre. Men turn up in black bandhgalas & black suits at weddings all the time. Why is the colour coding only for women? Lets revisit some of our lopsided social conventions & beliefs instead of perpetuating them.

Divya looks pretty and just right, not trying to steal the bride’s thunder

  4. Tbf, its not the actual wedding day but the after-party reception. So probably black still works. Having said that, it does look out of place for a the festive occasion.

  5. Black isn’t a common color for the actual wedding ceremony but people wear black for reception all the time! It’s not unusual at all.

  6. I always thought you only avoid black for the main wedding day itself, not the reception. I mean it’s just like any other party.
