In Sabyasachi

Wearing a Sabyasachi sari, Deepika participated in a panel discussion in Mumbai yesterday. With her hair pulled back in to a slick bun, she rounded out the look with statement-y earrings and Christian Louboutin pumps.

This look has me on the fence. On one hand, that’s a whole lot of yellow fabric to take in. Between the pussy-bow top with voluminous sleeves and that sari, even the sleek tight knot didn’t help balance out the volume and color. On the other, it was a dramatic look that she owned; to her credit, Deepika fared better than most others would in it.

Regardless, wish she’d move past the dramatic voluminous looks with exaggerated silhouettes and change it up with her next big appearance.

  1. Can we approach the International Criminal Court of Justice for crimes against the sari? Sabyasachi must be sanctioned for this.

  2. Mess!!!
And sometimes, she should go easy on her hair. Its almost always that severely pulled back hair… I wonder if it doesn’t hurt her eyes 🙁

  3. This is so stupid and unacceptable. What is Shalini thinking? after the green loofah DP is now wearing this yellow thing? nothing dramatic about it. its just messed up! Shalini seems to hate on DP but DP has no sense of style? it hurts to see that. She behaves as if she has no personality and no personal sense of style.

    • Meh, I’m done with people blaming only DP’s stylist and designers for her ridiculous looks. Watched her interview with Anupama Chopra at Cannes and she sounded so proud of her green gown, it was actually laughable. She definitely has a say in what she wears and purposefully picks the worst pieces. Moreover, she clearly thinks she’s killing it.

  4. She clearly looks very overwhelmed in this saree. It is possible to look fashionable without having to resort to a dramatic look all the time, Deepika!

  5. Not a fan of most of her looks but I actually kind of like this. She pulls it off. The only thing that I absolutely detest is the tacky back of the blouse.

  6. Had it not been ID-d on Deepika and Sabya’s instagrams, I would’ve never in a million years picked this to be a Sabya. Shehla Khan may be? Dunno what Sabya was thinking. Also, I would love to know how Shaleena manages to find the tackiest designs of some of the most brilliant designers. Sonam is looking lovely in Sabya pieces from Kashghar Bazaar and Shaleena picks this???

  7. Sabya has taken an immense pride(rightfully so) in bringing back old world Indian fabrics and embroideries from bygone era with beautiful outcomes so it really surprises me that he comes up with this atrocity! Also is anyone else getting major Sonam vibes with this look?

  8. Hi PnP, email box is not showing up while accessing the site via mobile phone, therefore unable to post comments. Facing the issue since the look of the site has been changed. Posting this comment via laptop. As for DP’s look, that’s too much of fabric n overdose of colour yellow. Her height is the saving grace here. Pls stop doing silly experiments with the saree- oversized tops, t-shirts, jeans n what not..simply takes away the grace of the saree. Such combo may look good on models and editorial shoots but looks plain silly in general.

  9. Sigh. So much potential here. I love the blouse, and the makeup is perfect. But there is just too much going on. Leaving aside the question of whether this ruffle saree should exist or not, ruffles plus a dramatic pussy bow blouse seems far too extra. Also, I really wish this were not monotone – a contrast between the saree and the blouse would have done wonders! Plus those earrings – perhaps they were a justification for the tight bun (as if Sabya needs it), but honestly smaller earrings with a softer updo would have been so much better here.

  10. I am still trying to figure out the saree bit, I dont see it!! what a beautiful colour wasted on such a beautiful lady just because the stylist and designer have gone haywire. Very unfair to Deepika! Shaalina and Sabya really dont care about her, taking ridiculous (sad) poetic licence with her beauty, Whats with the pasty hair??? Please do stop, Deepika, you know you can do so much better and smarter

  11. just because she has height doesn’t mean that every thing look good on her. she should stop wearing clothes like this because it looks too over whelming on her

  12. She’s gorgeous and so are those earrings but they had no place in the outfit. Someone really needs to tell her or Shaleena (her stylist) that more is not better, in fact less is.

  13. I think the Ranveer bug bit her too! I was imaging it would be the other way around where Ranveer takes cues from Deepika, but looks like she is imitating his style and it does not suit here at all!

  14. Clearly she is oozing confidence in everything she wears. She does not think anything is wrong with her dress sense and choices. Even Sabya told in a interview that she knew exactly what she wanted for her wedding down to breakfast menu! So there….I think she will continue to dress like this for a looong time 🙁

  15. This is so bad. So much yellow and i just absolutely HATE the hair. But as everyone has said, maybe this is what she likes and now i must say it with the greatest regret – she has no style. She is blessed with everything but the knowledge of what looks good on her.
Can someone tell me why she and Anaita parted ways? She was ethereal in cocktail and its been such a long slope downwards. She looks skeletal in that chipku hair, bony face. HATE it.
She applies numbing cream to her feet (she said so in a Met Gala video) I’m sure she sprays some on those poor earlobes too.
