In Prabal Gurung Atelier

Comment image 37

It’s the first Monday of May and that means the Met Gala is underway as we type. In attendance, for the second year in a row, was Deepika wearing a red one-shoulder Prabal Gurung Atelier gown and jewellery by the designer’s collaboration with Tasaki.

Compared to last year, we can all agree, this was definitely better. Having said that though, it is the Met Gala and expectations run very very high. Her in this gown and the wet hair look not only didn’t feel very novel but also felt like something she could’ve worn to any other evening soiree. Let’s say even with that stunning gown, we are feeling a tad bit underwhelmed.

On an aside, is it just me or does she look a lot like Neelam Gill in the first pic?

  1. Quite disappointed. She could have added a head gear and a few accessories and made it better. Also, still the slick back hair. This also looks very similar to the Gauri & Nainika dress she wore a few months ago. Considering this is her second time, she should have done much better and not just worn a gown that could be worn to every other red carpet.

  2. Not impressed. Does she look good? Yes, but this is the MET Gala we’re talking about! Its supposed to be avant garde not regular retail fashion. I so seriously wish her stylists took some risk with her. Plus, I don’t see how this gown fits into the theme unless you call this the Cardinal Red (which it isn’t).

      • That’s a cop out. This looks like a scarlet rather than Cardinal Red. Regardless of the color, the gown and its styling is so off theme.

    • Agree. She looks good, yes. Can this be any other red carpet, yes. She did miss the theme by much – why did Prabal not say anything? Others wearing his designs were one up I think. A bit of a waste of the gown and the occasion – she has got it in her to carry it off.
May be her stylist takes a few pointers from Priyanka’s..she nailed the theme both years. Or Deepika from her friend herself.. who doesnt love getting ready for big event parties?!!

  4. Deepika ‘s Hilfiger outfit and look last year was better suited for this year’s theme. With Shaleena styling her for Cannes, i have no hopes for that too.

    • That’s exactly what I was thinking! Her last years look was more suited to this years theme! How is this red gown anything to do with the theme? And even with out that what’s special about it! It’s been done several several times and it’s boring!

  5. Deepika looks great, but yes, underwhelmed. I find DP to be other worldly, which is probably why I am constantly disappointed when she misses the mark, because when she hits it…

Best part of this was seeing Mr. Gurung in the background. Hope he didn’t have that duty all night! In fact, I am hoping nobody did, because as dramatic as elongated trains look on the red carpet, I can only imagine how managing them will ruin a night’s fun 🙂

  6. Where is the drama??? Can someone please fire Sheetal? Deepika really deserves better. She needs someone who can take risks. I am fed up of the hair.

  7. Deepika looks lovely, no doubt. But I agree with almost everyone here – it missed the mark. BIGLY. I don’t think she (or her stylist) got the memo. I love Deepika, but this is very disappointing

  8. It is like shaleena knows 4 looks- tight bun red lips , tight bun +nude lips+heavy kohl, gelled back wet hair plus nude or red lips, tied hair pony + berry lips! Team it up with gown with long slit. Vollaaa Look 5! Nothing wrong or right in this particular look – just same oleee BORING!

  9. If you ever see their photos together, Shaleena looks like a clone of Deepika. Not sure who’s inspired by whom but everything from the style to the hair and make up.
I get that as a stylist a lot of your personal aesthetic goes into the client’s look but sometimes you need to look past that especially to elevate them to the next level.

  10. Deepika needs a new stylist. If you arent inspired by the Met Gala then when are you going to bring your creativity. That gown doesnt even fit the theme, isnt remotely interesting. Its the same old boring deepika appearance. Gown..yes. one shouldered with something silly on top…yes. matching shoes… yes. Chipku hair… yes.
    Ok we are done.

  11. Its high time!! Think Deepika’s fan should open up a fan page name: ‘we hate Shaleena (!!)’ to get her notice bout this fact that she is her appearances every time…

  12. Met gala is all about drama and while this gown may have looked great on any other red carpet it just so run of the mill here .
Deepika too looks disappointed herself in most of the pictures.

  13. Major disappointment. Metgala is about art, expression , creativity and Prabul failed miserably….dont think that huge bow took much imagination or creative skills. Forget about pinning the red gown down to ‘Catholicism’.

  14. We see a lot of experimental outfits at Met Gala but why is DP or her team scared of it. This outfit doesn’t even look interesting. We have seen so many structured silhouettes on and off the runway that this looks way too boring. Although she has carried herself well but for Christ’s sake, she should be innovative with her outfits.

  15. what a waste of an opportunity and platform. I disagree P & P, I don’t think this year’s appearance is an improvement over last year. Beauty and styling was better last year I feel, but she missed the theme both times. Hopefully (unless highly self involved), her team and she must have noticed how underwhelming and non engaging to the theme her appearance was compared to most of the comparable attendees.

  16. Miss Universe Contestant in the early 90’s inspired by the Old Dynasty series…maybe that will be the theme next year, like she wore this year’s theme last year, maybe Shaleena is onto something(although its time she exercises her creative genes more than she actually exercises or atleast hire good assistants),its very hard to style a celeb, specially one as huge as DP who is at a stage where she needs noone’s approval but as a stylist she took an oath at her graduation ceremony holding a vogue, promising great things , so she shud sometimes put her nikes down and say DP, here’s how its gonna go down…she MUST honor that oath.

  17. Y’all just want her to look FUGLY like PC did in that hijab gown that made her look 45. Deepika looks youthful and fresh. If Prabal said this stuck to the theme then it stuck to the theme. Deepika will NEVER wear something outre. Her personal style is simple and sweet. Don’t like that its fine but stop telling her to change.

    • You know who’s style is simple! Rosie Huntington Whiteley! Do check her out. There were multiple ways to explore “simplicity” and go with the theme. I don’t know if DP is not getting designers or what. A sad back story was given for the look by the designer. So yeah! Don’t push the simplicity agenda. Cause this is plain. Plain bad!
