Sari Style

At the HT Most Stylish Awards, Deepika was seen in a sari gifted to her by Rekha paired with a gold choker, smoky eyes and a tight bun.

In a way Ms. Padukone sure threw us a curveball by opting for a non-designer sari and she did look lovely. But having said that, the look also felt very Sabyasachi. All that was missing was his signature embroidered border on the sari and that black bindi. 😉

P.S. This isn’t the first time we are seeing her in this sari. She wore it to her friend’s wedding paired with the same jewellery a few months ago.

  1. I loveee curve balls! Whenever she keeps it simple, it works for her. I do hope to see more celebrities wear traditional clothes! Deepika looks good.

  2. She looks gorgeous and I love it when she does something simple. The saree is gorgeous, but I have a couple of quibbles – the eye make up is too much and too dark, I wish it was more toned down and I wish the saree was not puddling at her feet.

  3. Gorgeous.. gorgeous.. gorgeous.. although she repetitively chooses the sleek/tight hair look , there is no denying she looks absolutely beautiful here!!

I love the saree and blouse combo on her tall frame and that face!!!

  4. Oh so lovely. Apparently, Rekha gifted her the gorgeous sari that she also wore for her friend’s wedding. The tight bun is not so tight this time and she repeats her clothes – love 🙂

  5. That’s definitely not a benarasi! Surprising you guys can’t distinguish sarees many times unless they’re tagged by someone. With your level of saree interest you should know that’s undoubtedly a kanjeevaram. A bindi would’ve been pretty with this traditional look.

  6. I love the kanjeevaram and colour looks lovely on our, I have no problem with either tight hair or smokey eye makeup. Sometimes you just want to pull your hair back and have fun, does not get in the way. Also when you have fabulous skin why hide it with hair.

  7. This could be so much more natural, organic and hence more lovely. The eye makeup is obviously not just a string Smokey eye. This is a proper raccoon eye. I also think the blouse does not look good on Deepika. Probably because the rest of the look is quite heavy and somber.

  8. What a lovely saree! Absolutely gorgeous. Nothing to fault in that saree or blouse. I’ve been converted from a default benarasi wearer to Kanjeevaram person now (thanks to Kangana’s look and now this saree). Yes better make-up, less smokey and more dewy kinda plus less severe hair would have made this look so much OMG amazing. Like you can do a traditional saree look with the whole bindi shebang with loose hair or beachy waves too you know.

  9. She looks absolutely gorgeous; such a beautiful saree. Her kajal is a little thick but I’m willing to ignore that. She has a special place in my heart for repeating the saree (within a couple of months too); not all celebs do that.

  10. i like the fact that she is repeating her clothes and jewellery…she had worn this neckpiece at ambanis party aswell…this approach towards fashion should be demonstrated by stars in todays age…where disposable fashion is a common thing ….and off course…she is looking stunning

  11. DP looks good by virtue of her amazing face and bod but seriously shaleena nathani she really doesnt do much work does she? Every time there’s a event it’s either a white or red or gold outfit, usually a sari. No f*cks given

    • Lol. Agree. Sabya adds border and makes it *sabya* brand. Kanchivarams are timeless and classic world renowned for many decades. Also South Indian ladies do tie up their hair with gajra and wear bindi with their Kanchivarams for eons.

      • Absolutely correct. Adding a border – in most cases its unnecessary – doesn’t make it a “Sabya” saree. These are timeless, classic and elegant creations and they will continue to be so. Ladies from the south Indian States wear these sarees so beautifully and in many different ways. Sabya’s styling principles…he seriously should visit any wedding from the south Indian States… to see how boring his style is. DP looks good in the wedding pics, goes to show that the non designer wear is soothing, elegant and beautiful, and elevates the beauty of every wearer.

      • While I do love many of his designs, I think Sabya just murders the beautiful traditional Benarasi and Kanjeevaam saris by adding the embroidered borders. Besides killing the look, it also kills the drape, especially in the hem of the pleats.

  12. This is how it’s done. She looks ethereal. It doesn’t matter if this look is reminiscent of various others she’s done. She looks gorgeous and that’s all there is to it. LOVE LOVE LOVE! More power to her 🙂

  13. The sari looks gorgeous and DP as always looks stunning ! My minor gripe would not be the bun or the eye-makeup but the blouse. I just feel it would have been better if she wore a traditional blouse especially when the rest of the look screams ‘traditional’. Here the blouse seems to belong to a different day/look.

  14. Why does wearing a saree force celebs into a Namaste pose..? Anyone recall Priyanka at Anushkas wedding.. I for one don’t think it’s needed. Be organic irrespective of the outfit you wear..

  15. Does the extra fabric at the bottom mean this was specially woven for her ? Usual width would not have fallen beyond ankles on Deepika’s height.
