In Manish Malhotra

Well, that didn’t take long. After one appearance in Sabya, Ms. Padukone was back to Manish Malhotra donning a green net sari at the Retail Jewellery India Awards.

Considering she tied her hair up and chose one statement piece of jewellery, I would’ve have rather seen her wear some emerald earrings with the sari than that necklace that is mostly covered. You like?

  1. She lacks oomph. Her posture is too stiff and the sari is tied the way a hospitality worker would probably wear. And while I’m at it: eyebrows are too arched and the lip color is too dark. I’m surprised she didnt wear her black leather strap watch with it.

  2. I agree about the earrings bit. I also think that for her height and body, she should wear blouses with a longer bodice. It looks like her blouse is riding up her chest.

That said, this is one Manish Malhotra saree I could learn to live with. She did good with it.

  3. It is so not fair for her to have such a goddess like body. Ok I’m sulking, she does look gorgeous though. The sari is so meh. Manish should pack his bags and go home. His saris/lehngas suck.

  4. i actually love this peacock color combo – it’s one of my favorites! and totally agree about the earrings — her neck looks like there is way too much going on!

  5. Too stiff! can’t she relax and let out her breath!!
saree draping is weird. maybe the length of the blouse can be increased a bit to cover the long torso 😀
maybe sarees are a bit weird on long torsos!

  6. I like that she ties up her hair as often as she does. It looks lovely on her. Agree with you PnP about the Emrald earings.

But back she is with that awfully short blouse and low tied sari and that “seena thoda zyada hi taan ke” pose of hers. No sari, be it MM or sabya can salvage these factors. Although i must admit thats one ugly sari. Anyone has a idea how much a MM sari like that costs ?

  7. I agree about the earring instead of necklace, but I still like this look anyway. Maybe its because I am an expat without a real understanding of the traditions and cultural connotations of the sari- but I prefer ‘modern’ saris like this one, to traditional conservative ones.
Especially on beautiful, young actresses with toned bodies, I think a sari that shows some skin and exudes sex appeal while still looking ethnic and classy is the way to go. On older women, I think rich silk saris that are more covering with a half-sleeved blouse look so graceful and timeless. But they look too old for women like Deepika. I agree on manish malothra being too flashy though.

  8. i dont like net saris and i dont like manish malhotra (although this isnt as bad as the crap i see kareena kapoor, kajol and aishwariya wear from his store), but cant help noticing how picture perfect padukone looks here as a model.

why doesnt india send her to miss universe instead of ushoshi? just wishful thinking.

  9. I am getting a little sick of seeing Deepika in sarees and her sports bra – blouses. Standing tall and rigid might be her idea of elegance and grace. But in a saree, she just looks awkward. Her saree isn’t draped well either. It’s looking as if her pallu was gathered in a rush and thrown back.

  10. Hey… That’s a lovely saree but why is she wearing it like this??? It’s making her look like some Aunty ……Tied hair doesn’t suit her. The neck piece doesn’t do much for her…. Like the ring though.

  11. I love the saree….the neck piece is Meh!! but i dont like anything much on Deepika…she is so stiff…dosent seem to exude any warmth at all…kills the whole idea of carrying saree with grace. I love the saree but the blouse cud have been better….

  14. i was telling myself that i sometimes find her average looking and then she appeared looking gorgeous. agree with ur comment about necklace and earing. the boob coverage looks a bit awkward in the 2nd pic; it’s pulled back too far, or just to do with the design of the sari. maybe she reads our complains about everyone covering only one side.

    • Yeah, I too find her looking gorgeous sometimes and so so other times. I think it’s the way she dresses or poses. She does have a great toned body, but she needs to learn how to pose well since she seems to be taller than the average bollywood stars. Her blouses too are too short and makes her waist looks rather strange esp. in a saree. The necklace and the saree are fighting for attention and neither are winning.

  15. 1- She should have special length sari’s made for her… don’t like short pallus….
2- I initially it seemed odd…. but now I think its her natural pose may be… chest pushed forward…. ALWAYS….

  16. Doesn’t work at all for me. Something about the posture and drape reminds me of those mannequins, remnants from the 60s, that one sees even now in State Textile emporiums.

  17. I have to agree, emerald earrings would have been better.

Deepika Padukone fashion sense is clean and neat & that’s what I love about her..she is always well put together. Everything in place.

    And a great body too!

  18. this saree looks atrocious – could be straight out of those saas bahu shows!

there can be more better modern sarees which can look sexy and young – but this oen surely isn;t cutting it.

  19. I hate the way she looks here. The sari is so low and there is too much midriff showing – it looks a little vulgar to me. Deepika Relax!!!!

  20. Looks like her pose in sarees needs a major revamp, not to mention the length of the blouse, just a wee bit longer… can I also add that she does need to work on the pallu, and to think she would have improved after cannes disaster…

  21. Is it just me or does anyone else also agree that ms padukone always tends to wear her saree’s a lil too low… and that just spoils the whole look…. nothing about this saree or the accessories or the way its been worn works for me 🙁

  22. I like the saree but as everyone has mentioned she is too rigid to carry off something as graceful as a saree. the blouse cud be much better ….a diff tone would be good
