While Ms. Padukone features in a shoot in the Filmfare Anniversary issue that pays homage to movies from Hollywood that made quite an impact, Ms. Kapoor covers the leading ladies that did so closer to home.

  1. I absolutely adored this shoot. Deepika is so very gamine in pictures that she pulls off Audrey with elan, the recreation of Vivien Leigh (one of my absolutely favorite actresses) is quite evocative, and the Marilyn look is very glamorous. What really blows me away, though, is Sonam’s shoot. She really looks the part. Comparisons by Sonam’s directors to actresses as diverse as Waheeda Rehman and Rekha make perfect visual sense if you see these pictures; she has a truly versatile face. Also, the clothes by Anamika Khanna are beautiful – they pay tribute without looking like unimaginative replicas.

    • Really? Deeps as Vivien Leigh , Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn?
no way wish they got some one else!

Her looks are very, soo Indian ..which is a very good thing so it feels odd looking at her like a Hollywood Icon.

      • I agree, she looks a little ridiculous – I much prefer the Sonam Kapoor pics, but it all seems a bit unimaginative. Can’t they think up some original pics intstead of ‘re-creating’ these classic scenes and actresses. Lets face it nobodys going to be able to live up to these icons and will just end up falling flat in comparison.

      • yah….plus her features are too strong for the softness of the ladies, like audrey…
Sonam on the other hand, has fit in so effortlessly

  2. the deepika shoot is soooo boring. i think she is bored, the stylist is bored and so is the photographer. her classically indian features would have worked so well in the sonam version, but inspire a snore in the hollywood version.
i think dia mirza would make a damn cute vivien leigh.

sonam totally works the shoot, apart from the mumtaz.

  3. This round def goes to Sonam. She looks absolutely ethereal. She has done all four looks so well..really hard to choose which one’s the best. But after much thought I think I’ll pick Waheeda Rehman look..hard to match someone so graceful as Waheeda Rehman but Sonam does it so well…so simple yet stunning.
Deepika looks good as Marilyn and Viviene but I don’t think she has done justice to Audrey. Am just not feeling it.

  4. Wow, i am pretty impressed with Deepika. I always thought her features are quite Indian. Love it as compared to that past ridicule~~Vidya Balan for Audrey. Sonam does NOT look anything close to Meenakumari. But i like her in the second pic though she resembles more of Nargees(nargis?) there.

  5. I love Sonam’s photo shoot and am a huge fan of the site but I don’t think Mumtaz was ever in Brahmachari. The actress was called Rajshree. 🙂

  6. Not a big fan of the deepika shoot. Looks like a snooze fest. And breakfast at tifanny’s is one of my favourite movies. She is not even 1/100th the grace and charm audrey hepburn is.

The sonam shoot looks fabulous. She’s extremely versatile. Why directors don’t manage to get that talent out of her in movies is a mystery.

  7. I love Sonam as Waheeda…so simple and gorgeous..the probably branded white bag was unecessary though.
Second fav is sonam as Madhubala.

Deepika’s are all meh..lack the personality that sonam brings.. And i am not a Sonam fan !!!

    • I think Sonam is channeling Waheeda from “Jaane kya tune kahi” from Pyaasa. She carries a bag in that song (perhaps not branded, and definitely not that large, though).

  8. Sonam all the way. Love all her looks. Deepika on the other hand looks good as Audrey Hepburn but the other two looks are uninspired and boring.

  9. deepika looks way too ethnic-indian to pull off the hollywood re-creations, plus i agree with voldemort – she looks bored / boring. sonam could have pulled off the hollywood bit as easily as she does the bollywood retro…she’s such a stunner.

  10. The Hollywood homage is SO boring. Anyone in Bangalore? Please go to Tasveer to see an exhibition of pictures of stars from the Golden age of Hollywood. They totally capture the elusiveness of celebrity, what true glamour is all about, when the stars let you see only what they wanted you to and didn’t let it all hang out!

  11. deepika’s features are indian and don’t seem to work with old hollywood looks but here sonam’s got it perfectly right…well done for her

  12. Don’t like the choice of actors one bit. The photography and backgrounds are amazing, so is the makeup but sonam and deepika both are unable to do justice to the original celebrities. Sonam only wears one smile as well and deepika’s face has too much of a traditional feel to work there. maybe if they would’ve switched…

  13. Deepika looks pretty, but it is still Deepika. Says nothing of the characters.

Sonam’s spread is stunning. She looks gorgeous as Madhubala and Waheeda Rehman. I love the B/W photo, she even has the correct expressions. She is the Waheeda type of beauty, even in Sawariya.

  15. Aye Aye nooo Deepika as Marilyn Monroe , she’s got it all wrong Marilyn is Fiery and bold and she looks like a Shy Indian blushing small town girl.

  16. Oh! Sonam as Waheeda completely took my breath away…I actually gasped! She looks etheral…
They should have done Rekha and not Mumtaz on her…then it would have been perfect!

  17. Of the two I loved Sonam Kapoor’s shoot. Deepika looks surprisingly good as Marilyn Monroe and not bad as Audrey. Like it. But Sonam Kapoor looks breathtaking as Waheeda Rehman and Madhubala. The styling, photography and lighting are absolutely gorgeous.

I still cant get over how beautiful Sonam looks as Waheeda… so simple, but still time less.

  18. I particularly love all of sonam’s shots from this shoot..and as far deepika i’m not a huge fan of this shoot…but on an aside I wish filmfare would have taken inspiration from these films and thrown a modern twist or any sort of twist so that both of these girls could bring out their own unique style/attitude to the shoot. I just feel like both of them and filmfare are trying too hard to imitate.

  19. the deepika shoot is just meh!

… sonam’s looks richer because of all the gorgeous clothes and colours …. i love her in the waheeda look (minus the bag which looks totally out of place) ….

the rest i am conflicted …. on one side those scenes are from classic movies, wonderful clothes but on the other hand she doesn’t manage to capture the nazakat, the grace, the elusive superstar quality of the heroines of yesteryear.

  20. Sonam is stunning and fits in the roles perfectly. Beautiful. Deepika’s Monroe is nice but she missed Hepburn completely. She is not in the skin of the character she is portraying.

  21. Favorite: Sonam as Madhubala and Sonam as Waheeda
    Least Fav: Sonam as Helen.
The helen photo looks so unprofessional… like someone is dancing in their living room and took a photo with their digital camera.. didnt like it at all.
I have nothing to say about Padukone other than yawnnnnn.

  22. Wow, those are stunning pictures, my favorites were Deepika as Marilyn Monroe and Sonam as Madhubala – especially the latter photo is really very well shot. Sonam is so versatile, I had no idea!

  23. 1. Sonam looks ethereal in the Pakeezah B/W snap- her expression! OMG! it doesn’t let your eyes even check out her outfit
    2. The Pyaasa one is beautiful

This girl is a stunner! No really, Deepika’s shoot looks like when you pick up one of those random magazine while waiting at the beauty parlor-its soooo casual when the desired effect is to actually get an OOh and Aah out of the readers!

Sonam wins this one hands down like all her other victories when it comes to vs Deepika- and the funny thing is Deepika was supermodel before entering Bollywood! These gurls should trade careers!
