Wearing Manish Malhotra saris, these lovely ladies attended the designer’s show at Fashion Week. Who do you think fared best in hers?

  1. Daisy’s blouse is particularly tacky. Indian designers should focus on preserving & promoting indian weaves & not promote such gaudy style. In a country that is so culturally rich in terms of textiles & weaves they don’t need to ape the west.

    • Agree that these blouses are tacky and the saris not much to write home about. Having said that, let’s talk about “gaudy” style now. What you may consider gaudy is actually culturally the norm in certain pockets of the country. There is a reason a Manish Malhotra does well with Punjabi/ Sindhi crowds….loud and gaudy as it may seem to certain sensibilities, it does appeal to others and in fact would not seem out of place at a celebratory event. Writing these sensibilities off is akin to clubbing together all handloom weaves as “khadi bhandaar” wear. My point is, to each his own aesthetic…..the country’s tapestry is woven with many different threads, let’s not run down those sensibilities we don’t subscribe to.

      • Agree with you on different style sensibilities but there is nothing designer like about these sarees. Daisy’s blouse looks tacky imo because it’s dated. The sarees are rather plain ~ and not in a minimalistic chic kind of way. No one called them gaudy because they’re too plain for that. I’ve seen my friend get married in his bridal wear which looked really good but in this case, they simply don’t.

  2. I miss the days when HHC covered the fashion shows too i.e. what was showcased on the ramp. Thats when it was a fashion blog.. this is just another Bollywood who wore what 🙁

    • Yeah, why is that? Until last year, they did cover the runway shows (unless I’m mistaken). It’s something I always looked forward to because HHC thrived with activity then. If there was ever a time I found the bloggers’ objectivity – and personal tastes – refreshing was during those shows. How come we haven’t caught a single glimpse yet? Did they opt for a new policy or something? :/

        • Thanks for the reply. 🙂 Though I am sorry to see that feature gone, I can respect that. By the way, what ever happened to the intern who covered men’s fashion?

        • I would be glad to skip a few of the celeb sightings to cover the fashion shows. Some of the looks don’t even warrant a post. If bandwidth is an issue, how about you focus on the best and worst looks and cover only the mediocre stuff when you can. Also, you are now a brand with a huge reach – it may be a good time to re-evaluate if you can expand this from more than a hobby. Totally respect if you don’t want to, but my two cents.

  3. If it wasn’t listed, I would have never imagined these saris to be MM – what a shame for one of the leading Indian designers to give in to underwhelming and unnecessary contemporary-sari/blouse trend to stay relevant, which don’t fit in with his brand at all.

  4. Could the looks be any tackier? I dislike all these horrible sari blouse combos and the loads of make up on each face the most.
