Sari Style

At the Time’s 100 Most Influential People Gala, it was great to see some saris on the red carpet. We loved Anusha Bhagat’s emerald green sari but why-oh-why did she pair it with a Gucci tote with pink handles? Pandora founder Tim Westergren walked with a lady who also wore a sari. Despite that her sari wasn’t worn well with the pleats being way off, she had all her basics right with a cream shawl and a peach clutch to complement the look.(Am still trying to track down who the lady is).

Gosh, if only Anusha had carried a clutch. Am in love with her green sari.

  4. P&P, This sari was a craze a few years ago after an actress wore a similar style in a movie. Its called dhum dhum dhum sari. I have the same color which my mom got for my wedding.

  5. Love seeing Kanchi style sarees on the red carpet – they are so rare. Love Anusha’s appearance (yes a nice clutch would have made it 10/10).
I can’t look past how badly the other lady has worn her saree.

  6. The green Kanchipuram looks lovely…I do wish more women would wear such silk sarees. The other woman would have looked better in a Kanchipuram too. That boring saree isn’t helping her at all esp. since the guy with her is so well dressed.

  9. Again…extremely common sarees but that takes nothing away from their beauty…I dont like the peach sari though and definitely detest the way it has been worn…I have to agree that the bag is just marring the effect of the sari..

  10. whoa!! chetan bhagat has a link to ur “girlie gossip site” in one of his tweets. cool right! and he has a perfectly good reason why anusha doesnt have a clutch. isn’t that sweet!! now i cant fault anusha’s look one bit!! 🙂 chetan looks great himself!

    • If he thinks this is a “girlie gossip” site, he is sadly mistaken. P&P go to great lengths to make sure there is no gossip here. Just a discussion about fashion. We and all the fashion people who come to this site are obviously below his standard?

And really, do women take fashion advice from their husbands?

          • So, it was YOUUUUU! Off with your head!

Just kidding. 😛 As for travelling light like Mr. Bhagat mentions, I am all for it but these days easier said than done.

        • not fair of him to have his wife carry that bag with the sari – would he wear sneakers with his black suit , to save space in his luggage???

          • hmm so apparently its `3 (plus) mistakes of my life`….
and a tote takes less space than a clutch?… i guess physics is not his strongest subject. I bet he asked her to smuggle in copies of his book to pass around at the dinner.

other than that both ladies look lovely and totally own the evening.

      • so we discuss fashion and most of the readers are girls..oh no! that definitely makes this a ‘girlie gossip’ site, doesn’t it?? How dismissive! If it had been concerned with politics, would he have taken more care?
I find it condescending and not at all witty, which I think chetan bhagat was trying to be on his twitter account, and failed.

  11. Such a change from those beaded, blingy and virulently coovered sarees. Anusha looks quite lovely. And the lady in peach has a rather retro 60s air which is not seen much these days. It may not be the best but its just great to see different looks

  13. Not sure why the other lady deserves ANY credit. My mom’s maid looks better put together than her even at the end of her work day!

    • I dont get why people say things like ‘this looks like a maid’s sari’ or ‘my maid is better-dressed’. There is no connection between the kind of job you hold and how you dress.

Also, using a comparison to a lower-class person as a diss is just insensitive.

      • Most Indians have a condescending attitude towards the lower class of people. It is debatable but that’s the general attitude esp. for people living in India.
