Not Quite

While Ameesha paired her Nalandda Bhandari top with a pair of shorts and accessorized with Gucci heels and a Chanel bag, Sameera went with a white corset that she paired with pants, a Jimmy Choo clutch and some peep-toes.

The top wasn’t the most flattering on Ameesha and we’ve certainly seen Sameera look better… It’s going to be a ‘Not Quite‘ for both these ladies.

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Masaba

Masaba’s most recent collection stayed true to the designer’s aesthetic. She continued to play with colors and patterns, mixing textures to interesting results. While it wasn’t over the top kitschy, it wasn’t one for the wallflowers among us either. Some outfits were more successful than others but ‘boring‘ is not we’d accuse the designer of. It’d be interesting to see what this young designer does next.

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Satya Paul

There were dresses, gowns, saris, lehengas, separates… Quite the extensive collection from Satya Paul. But that doesn’t mean they were all good.

Less said about the western-wear, the better. I hope to never see that rosette gown on a red carpet. Ever. The saris were pretty and wearable. We can’t help but wish the collection was better edited though, there is such a thing as one too many.

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Babita Malkani

While we loved last collection of Babita’s, can’t quite say the same this time around. Where it was Bhutan that she drew inspiration from for her last collection, it was the mountains of Cappadocia (Turkey) this time around. Like it’s source of inspiration, the collection was all peaks and valleys for me. With not too many peaks at that. Barring an elusive few, the collection was drab and unimaginative.

P.S : Pooja Batra (top row, extreme left) walked for Babita.

LFW Winter/Festive: Ritu Kumar

My feelings for this collection were as mixed as the clothes shown as part of it. Ritu Kumar’s The Label (designed by Amrish Kumar) showcased dresses, separates and Indian-wear (like those lehengas) with a more contemporary twist.

The pieces that had Indian influences worked really well and, those lehengas (second row, right and extreme right images) especially stood out. The rest though were quite humdrum. This prêt line is as commercial as it gets with pieces ready to be worn right off the runway and we have no doubts they’d sell… But as far as the “design” part of it goes, there was nothing new on offer here. Did I already say humdrum?
