Anamika Khanna: LFW Summer/Resort 2011

You’ve already seen a preview from Anamika Khanna’s Summer/Resort collection. Here is the look at the rest that followed the menswear inspired looks.

Although the collection was predominantly black and white, there was also some color injected by way of lehengas, kurtas, dupattas. All of the looks were rich in the trademark Khanna-esque embellishment. It probably is just me, but some of the looks took me back in time to the Gandhi-era where white used to be the theme and full-sleeve blouses were seen with full skirts.

The collection did feel a wee bit phoned in (the ill-fitted jodhpurs/the cholis) but the richer individual pieces more than made up for it. We, of course, were gushing over the pink lehenga and the embellished vests.

Sabyasachi: LFW Summer/Resort 2011

No one quite plays with textures, colors and prints like he does, and this master craftsman has us gush, season after season. The khadi color-block dress, the peasant blouse and the floral dress were my absolute favorite (follow the arrow!)… I need to have ’em now. I must. Okay so now that, that’s out of the system…

Sabyasachi’s collection was inspired by the Save The Tiger project. Using his Bengali aesthetic and crafts of the region in a stellar manner, Mr. Mukherjee put forth a collection that was fresh, contemporary and still had his signature kitsch appeal.

The show started off with yellow and black toned ensembles (channeling the colors of the Tiger?) and then progressively moving on to other colors. According to the press note, the presented collection moved through various decades of fashion- the fun and freedom of the 20s, elegance of the 30s and 40s, 70s boho chic and the 80s daring arresting bras.

Loved the use of khadi and handloom fabrics and the use of earthy tones along with the brighter hues. Florals were just brilliant and we must absolutely get our hands on that bright printed sack gown. Oh but wait, I already said that! 🙂

GenNext Show: LFW Summer/Resort 2011

Focus shifted back to the Grand Hyatt Mumbai and the day started off with the GenNext show showcasing six labels. I’ll admit I wasn’t blown away by the presentations but keep in mind that most of the designers are just starting out and so it is the vision that counts.

Blank Spot By Shivaji Dutta
Using mustard as a base color and leather detailing to provide geometric shapes, Shivaji Dutta with his label Blank Spot wanted to remind us not to waste. There were skirts, shirts and even trousers given a second life as dresses. While the idea in itself was great, the big drawback of the collection was the base color. It wasn’t appealing.

DeuxA by Anna-Liza Ganguly and Anita Walia
Anna Liza and Anita maybe new to LFW but the duo who operate in Paris are not quite newcomers. Their label “deuxA” (get it?) presented “Samo Was Here” that used prints by American artist Jean Michel Basquiat as a backdrop accentuated by power shoulders. The beige vest and the final maxi paired with the deuxA logo neckpiece were the two that stood out.

Sari Style: Part Deux

The sari is vibrant as is the yellow blouse so why does this look still feel so meh. I blame the middle parted hair. You?

Sari Style

In a sari very similar in pattern to the one donned at the National Awards, Aishwarya graced the 2nd World Kannada Convention in Belgaum.

I wish there were bigger pics because from what I see, I like.
