WLIFW A/W 2011: Day Three

Namrata Joshipura, WLIFW A/W 2011

Sequins, embellishments, Miu Miu’esque bejeweled socks and dark, strong evening-wear silhouettes. We are bound to see a lot of these off the runway!

Small Shop, WLIFW A/W 2011

Playful and interesting silhouettes stood out in this collection…

Sonam Dubal, WLIFW A/W 2011

The more Indian designs fared a lot better over the western silhouettes in this collection…

Tanvi Kedia, WLIFW A/W 2011

Bright, wearable, commercial and fun clothes. But definitely more Resort than A/W.

The head-pieces stole the show!

Pratima Pandey, WLIFW A/W 2011

Tad repetitive. And besides, a lot of times it just felt more shabby than shabby-chic.

Gayatri Khanna, WLIFW A/W 2011

Safe, commercial silhouettes and very wearable separates. Do like the evening dresses with the beaded details.

This undoubtedly was one of our favorites from the day. Strong silhouettes, well-crafted and just plain beautiful clothes. Impeccable and oh-so-chic. The dresses and coats were fab, and the pieces in cerulean’ish blue certainly stood out!

Seeing Double?

Do you see what we see? Someone’s been dipping into the cookie jar! 😉

WLIFW A/W 2011: Day Two (Part Deux!)

The theme of Rahul Singh’s collection, Sea of Science, was made evident by the use of only blue and white as the color scheme. But, the designer didn’t let the two colors at hand limit the possibilities. There were plenty of tunics, dresses and separates presented in chiffon and satin.

Saaj By Ankita’s collection was a tribute to Ladakh. While the craftwork may have been more Ladakh oriented, we saw a lot of traditional dance costume influences in the collection with the fan-shaped pleats and the use of bordered fabrics appearing in multiple outfits. Would be really interested in seeing someone wear one these off the runway.

Sonia Jetleey’s collection Pot Pourri started with a model wearing a “Baroque is in style” tee. What followed were long skirts, jodhpur pants, kaftans, tunics and even a sari with baroque motifs. Also part of the collection were vegetable tanned handbags and boots. With the added ombre-effect, some of the outfits felt too busy.

Rajdeep Ranawat & Naresh Chauhan’s label Zurhke was heavy on floral digital prints featuring in tunics, dresses and kaftans. There was also heavy use of embroidery but the most striking piece was the coat presented at the end (below right).

Moulin Rouge was the theme of Preeti Chandra’s collection that consisted of voluminous skirts, one-shoulder dresses and gowns and jumpsuits with trains. There was a bit of old world glamor infused in the collection by way of long gloves, tiaras and lace but one could not help but see a lot of borrowed ideas, especially in the white gown that was very reminiscent of Dolce & Gabbana.

Simple shift dresses made interesting by way of quilting, floral embellishment and color-mixing marked Zubair Kirmani’s collection. In keeping with the winter theme, black was the base color used through-out.

Label’s autumn/winter collection continued to present what the design house is best known for. There was traditional jacquards, woolen blends, silk lycra and jerseys with block prints and eombroidery.

WLIFW A/W 2011: Day Two

Kavita Bhartia, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

The vibe was certainly bohemian over at Kavita Bhartia. Season’s favorite color, burnt orange popped up on this runway as well among the more muted colors. Though not a fan of the prints, loved the embellished dresses.

Payal Jain, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Payal Jain referenced the five elements of nature (earth, water, fire, air and space) in her collection. Orange for fire, green for earth, blue for water… You get the drift!

am:pm By Ankur And Priyanka Modi, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Heavy in separates, the collection was among the better ones presented today. Pretty dresses and use of florals stood out… The orange dress and the super wide-legged trousers (palazzos!) were a favorite.

Ashima Leena, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Heavy in western-wear silhouettes, ombré effect, bandhani techniques and beaded embellishments made for some interesting pieces. Tribal influenced, the necklines were well-utilized. Some pieces did feel more Resort than Autumn, though the point perhaps is moot.

Charu Parasher, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Pink, orange and green broken up with some black was this collection’s color palette. We weren’t really taken with the use of tulle nor with the way the florals were employed.

Komal Sood, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

For her debut collection, Komal Sood presented evening-wear heavy collection. A dash of Archana Kochchar, a smidgen of Swapnil Shinde and a teeny helping of inspiration from international runways… Is it just us, or do you too feel like you’ve seen all this before?

Dolly J, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

A visual overload, and not really in the best way either. There’s so much going on and, none of it really feels cohesive…

And finally, on to Rajesh Pratap Singh.

This certainly was our favorite from day two. Hands-down. Beautifully structured clothes, impeccable work and so-sophisticated-and-quietly-charming. Love. Can’t wait to see these off-the-runway!

In Twos

Draped one-shoulder dress paired with pointed pumps was the dress code for Neeta for both the Grazia bash and the Johnnie Walker bash and we were liking neither. If we really had to pick one, it would be the black look. It was less jarring and the red lips made the look more interesting. Relatively.
