just a side question here: What happens to all the clothes the side dancers wear in movies, award shows, the works… or the kind mithun and riya are sporting up there?? where do they even buy?? the shoes!! are they custom made?? Have been curious all my life actually.

  10. This is gross! Riya should quit movies if she has to do stuff like this and Mithun will have a heart attack any day.
Missy,I used to style for movies back in 2002, really short stint-your answer-depends on the budget of the movie. The director hires a designer-stylist duo who takes care of all the clothes and accessories. According to the budget they can either shop at Dior(like yashraj) or fashion street(the case in mithuns movie,i guess) and get things stitched by tailors.I notice this usually happens when the actors wear indian clothes and with so many designers competing with each other ties between the designers and directors are becoming popular. The shoes are bought locally-the sizes are taken they go and buy stuff for the extras after which its stored for another similar shoot and eventually thrown out. A lot of young stylists can take stuff back if told to so when I always came bavk home with some interesting clothing or accessory.

  11. Jaishree interesting to know thats how it is done but i thought they have these vendors where they outsource the constumes n stuff…I guess pretty much what u said…thanks for the insight..btw..how can they throw tons of constumes n shoes ? do they sell back as preowned ? but some of the constumes are really tacky to wear in real life ?

  12. Hey Nagina,Nobody wears them in real life.I have personally thrown away so many sandals and masks etc. Some stylists use vendors but a lot sell them to vendors as pre owned.whatever lil they can get is great. If the costume is great the actor may take it or its stored till space is required.the sandals usually break/get shabby.Budgets are relatively large and something small like this isnt missed. As for big budgets like Yashraj etc its a different story completely-the clothes and accessories are borrowed(the brand gains recognition) or sponsored or indian designers get paid to do them..hope that answers your questions.
