From Sketch To Real Life

Designer Archana Kochhar created a special gown for Avantika to wear to the Filmfare Awards and the end result was a voluminous gown in purple and white. While, the sketch looked luxurious, the end result certainly didn’t impress as much. We didn’t like it one bit. You?

  1. perhaps a diff color rather than boring ole purple would’ve worked out great. the sketch looked fab so it is the color making a problem. it’s almost OTT for me with that bright purple.

    i’m loving imran;s shoesss lol

  2. the sketch doesn’t look like it was made for her…
I know how it feels to be that short- and that shillouette will not work and it was poorly made with bad materials (poor thing, I almost feel bad)
almost, because she has MY MAN!!…jk
I love Imran’s look too :). he likes quirky things (he is quirky) and it fits him
to be quite honest, this is the first time in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time that I am looking forward to the Filmfare Awards- all becasue of him!

  3. I think it was meant to be much sleeker from the bust area and near the tummy… probably all that fabric or the wrong body type isn’t bringing that effect on Avantika (..who is she anyway?) The sketch i agree .. luxurious. Also, was the cleavage meant to be a bit more different?

  4. the sketch is beautiful……..what happened??!!! I almost always hate purple other then eggplant colour. Wonder if they had stuck to one colour it would have helped.

  5. Eggplant or lavender or purple or violet..the bands of color are not v pleasing to the eye.
an ombre version might have been much better…where the color darkened/or lightened in degrees.

  6. wow! the sketch is simply fab but it dint translate into reality at all. that dress is meant for someone much taller. avantika is way too petite (like me!) to carry that off. plus, the colors of that gown r unflattering. i am thinking olive and other shades of green. OR shades of chocolate and beige. yumm!

Imran looks cute. dont like the shiny shoes.

  7. Could you pls cover more people from the filmfare awards please? There are such good pics of Aishwarya Rai available on the net. There is Rekha who I believe is wearing her saree from the Om Shanti Om song and hairstyle from Zubeida. Same jewelry even. Then there is Sushmita Sen in anther black something. Please put up these pics too.

    Thanks

  9. I have known her for 16 years, Avantika that is, she is a tiny little girl, so a voluminous dress on a small girl was not a good idea. I blame the designer, she would have seen this for herself, the dress is pretty, but it overwhelms the little girl.

  10. the dress in the sketch is really nice. i am so jealous of avantika because she’s dating imran whom i have a huge crush on and she used to date ranbir kapoor who is also totally scrumptious. how can one person have so much luck?? not fair!

@ adit, how does she do it? what’s her secret?

  11. the sketch is beautiful… i even love the colours (though a rich colour would have been a better choice) but its just the wrong silhouette for her body type… its a dress for someone with a long torso and even longer legs… the dress is supposed to nip in at the waist and then flair out.. with her it looks like cloth wrapped around… and unfortunately it also needs a tiny waist..

  12. Yay to all the fellow petite girls! I sympathize with Avantika because we share similar body types – I’m very petite, with a short waist and long legs, and top-heavy as well. It’s difficult to find dresses that are accommodating enough at the bust but fitted well at the waist unless they are tailored perfectly. I do think a sleeker silhouette in a deep purple would have been a better choice.

I must admit, though, that it’s nice that Imran’s girlfriend is so “real”-looking; as in, she’s not the typical model-type.

i dont think she looks that bad. the dress is okay..but looks nothing like the sketch..i think if she was a bit taller it would have looked just fine.

  17. colour isn’t right, but i think the material is totally ewrong for her…the sketch looks more flowy and the material hould have been softer, not so stiff!

imran is tooo cute, oh if only…

  18. Its an ugly dress. The tailoring is ghastly, especially at the top. I think good tailoring can make a short, stout person look good, but sadly that’s not the case here.

  20. Even I read the story in mirror before the event – but bah, the dress doesn’t do anything for her, washed out her personality even more! Bad colour too!
