In Swadesh x Manish Malhotra

Janhvi and Khushi attended the store launch of Swadesh wearing custom Manish Malhotra who used woven fabric from Swadesh to create their costumes. Janhvi’s corset sharara was quite interesting but I didn’t care for Khushi outfit one bit. That cutout jumpsuit/jacket wasn’t my cup of tea.

Following is not related to the Kapoors but goes more about the celebs at this event. I know am late to the commentary (was busy prepping for my Kathak exam) but these collab creations with designers defeats the purpose of the messaging of this initiative. If am not mistaken, it is meant to highlight the art and craft and artisans and this was the one occasion, these celebs could’ve opted for simple pieces that highlighted the artisan without the additional “designer” element. They wear designer almost every other day.

In Anju Modi

It didn’t take too long for Ms. Hydari to return to her favorite ethnic look to wear, the pavadai thavani. The actress was spotted wearing a purple skirt with a cream embellished blouse and maroon/magenta embellished dupatta from Anju Modi. Overall, she looked lovely, as she always does. But, the more I look at the lehenga, I find the waist panel fabric such an odd choice to finish out that purple lehenga.

Sari Style

Madhuri, who was appointed as an ambassador for Odisha Handlooms a few month ago, finally was spotted wearing one at the store launch of Swadesh. As an Odia girl, you won’t find me complaining. Love that she also stayed away from adding a designer element to the outing.

She is wearing a Sambalpuri silk with a temple border and ikat pallu.

Sari Style

Bhumi attended the store launch of Swadesh wearing a patola sari sourced by Bharti and woven by Hema Patel draping it the seedha palla way. Given most of the celebrity guests had to tie something in from Swadesh, my guess is her blouse may have been from Swadesh? Waiting on confirmation on that.

Having said that, since the event was about celebrating the weaves and crafts of India, the patola made for a great pic. She looked lovely.

In Swadesh x Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Mom to be again, Sonam attended the Swadesh store launch wearing a black handwoven sari from Swadesh that was embellished by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Small jhumkis, a mango motif neckpiece and a gold clutch finished out her look.

Best wishes to her for this round of pregnancy.
