In Monisha Jaising

Athiya picked a blue-teal Monisha Jaising gown for her turn on the red carpet. Wearing her hair swept to the side, a ring-palm cuff is all that it took to finish out the look. First things first, can’t fault the rather timeless silhouette or the minimalism with which it was worn. She looked good!

Now that that’s out of the way, it’s got to be said, the same side-swept hair, no accessories, muted make-up stand is getting just a tad monotonous. You might be inclined to make the ‘personal style’ argument but there’s enough room on that playground to change things up.

  1. Please please pleaaase Athiya, don’t fall into the same sack of flour like other dusky actresses…you can see the layer of makeup on her arms!!!

  2. Is that foundation or dry skin?

I have to mention though, my arms are a different shade of brown from my face, and I suspect that’s true for quite a few desis.

    • Same here jadine. My arms are a significantly darker color than the rest of my body. Even then, I find the foundation on her arms quite disturbing. She is a lovely young woman, with great skin and complexion and I wish the newer actresses don’t fall prey to the pressures of the industry.

That being said, I love the color of the gown and she looks very statuesque.

  3. Oh man! This is frankly embarrassing for her. Such an elegant dress, a killer body and a face that can melt a million hearts – yet there is pressure on her to white wash her whole body.

There are so many little girls out there that don’t need to feel ashamed of their skin colour. I just hope these actors will eventually use their platform to show that skin colour shouldn’t impact your confidence.

    • I know.. Even established / popular stars can’t help themselves from painting all over.
I’d say that that makes it even more difficult for new actors to do otherwise, except that just shouldn’t be the case.
Being in any profession should not mean killing your individuality or blindly following trends from the dark ages, pun totally intended.

  4. Beg to differ on the accessories and minimalist view. Dramatic gowns like the one she is wearing can only be ruined by too much accessorizing and loud make-up. One has to give props to her for keeping it simple. Besides, she is wearing jewelry here and a gorgeous “ring-palm cuff” at that.
I think this look is a WIN!

  5. She must have used an entire bottle of foundation on her face and arms. This is such bad makeup, especially for such a big night. I just can’t get behind that.i loved how Deepika went bold and showed off her lovely glowing dusky skin at one of the other award functions.
