Ananya attended the Filmfare Marathi Awards wearing a blue paithani sari embellished on the borders by Manish Malhotra and a bandeau blouse also by him. The sari was delish but given the silver base, I didn’t think the dull gold jewellery worked here.

The embellishment is killing the saree
Pretty saree.
She was going for the “Apsara Aali” look. Saree has that unnecessary border…blouse is the pits…shiny all over like she is going to some wrestling pit. Beautiful girl always brought down with her styling.
What is she even doing at these awards??
Love the saree but hate the embellishment which totally brings down the beautiful saree. And yes, the gold jewelry does not work at all, it clashes with the silver. And the bandeau blouse was so unnecessary. This was such a great opportunity to shine in a paithani and it just felt super flat.

The sari is nice but the embellishment is a bit of a distraction. The colour really suits her though.

A handloom saree that has been brought down by chamán chamak sequins and a silly blouse.
On India’s national handloom day, pertinent post on how not to do it. Don’t care if the add-on border is handcrafted, the saree simply didn’t need it. What is this compulsion of designers to add unnecessary “signature touches” to a garment that’s complete by itself? If you really want to make designer handlooms, ensure weavers work 365 days/ year, work on developing colors, reviving motifs, creating combinations… don’t just add random embroidery and gota and your name to something that has survived decades without your intervention!
Why is her shoulder looking so oily? The problem I find with this look is it feels gimmicky, including the flowers in the hair.
Is such level of curation needed, when a simpler blouse and jewellery combination would’ve let her shine?
I don’t like the embellished border since a Paithani is already perfection. However, I actually like the whole ensemble and Ananya is carrying the saree quite gracefully. It is a fashion-forward look and the bare shoulders+flowers in the hair make it fresh and natural.

Total waste of a perfectly beautiful handloom sari in the name of designership ..
