In Shantanu and Nikhil

Malaika wore a deep red Shantanu-Nikhil lehenga at sis Amrita’s sangeet with husband Arbaaz wearing an all-white chikan suit.

If we didn’t know it was Amrita who was the one who got hitched, we would have almost believed that it was Malaika who was the bride! What do you think of her lehenga?

P.S. This was the official sangeet! The one before was hosted by Shakeel’s mom and was an unofficial event.

  1. Wow!!I am surprised she picked such a bright very RED lehnga. I agree, and a little shocked that an older sister would pick anything could possibly overshadow her lil sis’ big day!!!
nonetheless, she looks fab! and soooo covered up!! for malaika standards atleast!

  2. this isn’t from sangeet, its the nikkah…the sangeet was earlier this week where malaika wore a chudidaar/ jacket suit…if i’m not mistaken

  3. You’re right, looks like Malaika is the bride. She looks lovely and the lengha is beautiful, the jewellery and hair is spot-on! Also loving arbaaz’s ensemble.
As for Amrita – not much to say there… bechari.

  4. Fab!! Love this line from Shantanu-Nikhil. But agree that it is too red for the older sis to wear. Very bridal type. Anyway, I guess Amrita would have told her if she thought it was inappropriate. They must have planned it all out.

  5. Malaika looks FAB! I love the jewelry, the hair, jhumkas, armband, mehndi, churiya, seriously .. she looks like a bride!! True, she is too covered up for Malaika Arora .. minus the cleavage show …

  6. yes, she looks appropriate, but she also looks like she and arbaaz are getting married..like others have said, that shade of red is pretty much a bridal shade..she could’ve gone with pink or orange or so many other colors..the day should be about the bride..that being said, i really do like the lehenga..it’s simple and the jewellery is also stunning..arbaaz also looks fabulous! i think men look great in Indian clothes!

  7. I think she looks cheap. Cleavage at your sister’s wedding is a big no-no. Hate the armlet too. she looks like she is going to break into a mujra any second.
Arbaaz is a picture of sophistication next to her.

  9. i totally agree with Sonia99! she looks cheap, the armband is just plain tacky. and i don’t know why everyone here is saying that she’s overshadowing the bride, just cuz her outfit’s red? it is soooo plain though, i mean, the skirt has no work on it at all, and whatever the blouse looks like, she’s covering it with her chunni (hey, not complaining there, that’s a first for malaika). also, she’s not even heavily decked in the jewelry dept either. she’s not wearing a necklace at all. come on people.

  10. OMG…she’s overshadowed her sister on her wedding!!! Although I must say she looks FABULOUS (minus the cleavage)…normally I don’t agree with her wardrobe choices.

  11. I agree with most comments here. she looks gorgeous. but should should have gone with the same outfit in a different color, since she is not the bride. A deep eggplant color or something would have been lovely.

what is with Arbaaz’s chappal? It seems 3 sizes to big for him. 🙂

  12. She looks cheap as usual. honestly WHY even bother wearing a dupatta when you are showing skin from all angles. her hair and makeup are perfect and she could have looked so good! But she had to ruin it again with the skin show. She is WAY too “look at me”.. wish she would have canned it for once for her own sister’s wedding.

  13. fashion question: Is it ok to pair golden jewelry with silver zari work as I can see here ? It looks fine here (I love the jewelry), but I would be uncertain. Any thought ?

  14. malaika usually looks as if she’s trying v hard to look hawt when all she succeeds in doing is let it all hang out there and looks cheap! but have to say she’s looking awesome in the lehnga – its beautiful ,understated elegance with a full skirt and with just the right amt of shine, (not covered in sequins is gud) – and does the hubby look hot or what – malaika’s 1 v lucky girl!

  15. I think I was so busy looking at her I didnt notice Arbaaz, wow he does look hot .. also, I never do gold with silver or silver with gold but she pulls this combination off SO well!

  16. While I have a rule of not mixing gold and silver together, I didn’t even notice that the work was silver and jewelery was gold. Just goes to show that it can work together very well. An eye opener for me…

  17. i don’t think she looks like a bride, not like its amrita’s wedding ceremony…its just ‘sangeet’ and anyway she aint too glammed up to steal the thunder either! that said, she looks really nice, but i’m not liking the silver/gold combo (read clash). Arbaaz=yummy! but which guy in ethnic wear won’t?

  18. love the rajasthani touch with the maang tika.. looks cool.. love the lehenga.. so voluminous..! BUT.. hate that she is wearing red.. its younger sis’s day.. cant overshadow her like that.. considering you are all out red and she isnt.. also hate the skin show.. but then its Malaika.. so I guess she just cant live without it

  19. @Ashi -LOL, Ashi I differ with you this time – I think this time its gonna be” inhi logon he, inhi logon ne “by the way the dupatta is draped and knowing Malaika…:)

  20. i guess she can’t give up the vamp look even for her sister’s wedding.. lol. I love the lehenga, i dont think she overshadows Amrita, but it was a poor color choice nevertheless when you know your sister would be wearing red!!

  21. I think she looks lovely – red lipstick with such a bright red outfit would have been a disaster – her makeup and hair and jewellary all compliment the overall look. I love the shade of red – its perfect against her skin tone – a big thumbs up. Much much better than that awful jacket thingie she wore to the earlier sangeet.

  24. fab fab look…. I dont undestand why everyone is going on and on about her stealing her sister’s thunder…. this is a much lighter and simpler outfit albeit prettier but then thats a matter of taste. Amus is much heavier and more bridal.

  25. The cut of the lehnga is horrendous.. looks awkward and has no flow.. In the first picture my eyes went straight to the cleavage. I am so glad she likes her minis better. At least everything doesn’t seem to be falling out in those..

  28. Love love love the lehnga! It is like something out of a fairytale. And it is so rare to see something so simple and gorgeous. There is literally no work on the lehnga beyond the zari border. I want it!!!!!!

That being said, Amrita could’ve been more proactive in making sure her sis and best friend weren’t going to overshadow her. Either approve their outfits beforehand or up the ante on yours
    :-p
