Seeing as how Alia has been layering her dresses with jackets while on her latest movie’s promotions tour, we’ve got to ask… Which of the three looks featured here is your favorite? The BCBG dress paired with H&M jacket (left), the Aniket dress with BCBG jacket (centre) or the Topshop dress paired with a Zara throw (right)?

P.S: The sneakers are from Bershka and the sandals, Aldo.

  1. The BCBG + H&M look is the most coherent. Between the sheer hem and the negligee-like throw, the last outfit looks like it just walked out of the boudoir. I like the idea of the second outfit (checks on checks) but the two don’t work together.
But seriously. I’ll never get why, because layering is a thing in the west, a teen icon like Alia must be styled to popularize the same in hot and sweaty India. Why don’t our stylists work to inspire Indian girls, instead of blindly emulating trends in different latitudes?

Seems like her stylists usually pick a basic dressing for a particular movie promotions. Like last time it was mostly basic dresses with pumps and this time it is shift + sneakers I guess (with a jacket). But then there’s nothing new to these looks. Shift dresses with sneakers has been done countless times. What alia needs is a personal sense of style and some vibrant colours.

    • Icon ?? Alia ??! Please . It’s bad enough that Sonam thinks of herself as an ‘Icon’ now Alia is considered one too !? There are ppl much more talented and hardworking than the Bollywood kids who are there mainly because of the nepotism rampant in the industry! 😉

    • You are right about western weather related layering but what I’m seeing on Aliya is not heavy layers but layers of fabrics that are very relatable to warm weather. The layers are used to stylize the outfit. I don’t see anything wrong with that. It may have been done to add volume to her slender body type and that is a good thing. (as long as she is wearing the right kind of fabric to suit the weather) Sometimes, we get too carried away while stereotyping. If following western trends is bad, we should all be dressed only in traditional Indian clothes and nothing else.

  2. I like the first one the best. She looks lovely in that. The second look she looks cute like always but the prints are kind of clashing. The last one is good but would have scored better without the layer. I like how she keeps it accessory free for the most part. So excited for the movie. Cant wait to catch them both on screen.

  3. First look instantly reminded me of DP and looks the best. That blue colour with the print is really nice. That second shift dress is no more than a hospital gown. I like the 3rd look as well as it looks very complete and different from the other two in terms of being non-sporty. Delicate blue dress, but the makeup is oily!

    • Exactly!! I vaguely remember Phil from Modern family wearing an exact replica of the jacket in the middle pic when he is drinking his morning coffee at home ! 😛 None of these looks are working , she is looking like such a wannabe in all three looks for some reason ! 😉

  4. I don’t get Alia’s style. None of the outfits work. Why can’t she wear cheery colors to dress her age rather than draping layers of drab clothing ?

    • She keeps it safe & predictable. She definitely isnt cut out for taking risks. I have hardly ever seen her wearing anything apart from regular bottoms with tops, simple flared and shift dresses. That pretty much sums up her ‘style’, and oh of course copying our Begum too. 😛
