In Monisha Jaising

Alia Bhatt posed for pictures on the red carpet wearing a Monisha Jaising gown. Light smokey eyes, nude lip, Eina Ahluwalia earrings and sparkly pumps finished out the young actor’s look. Think ALia’s brush with ‘edge’ pay off? Like what you see?

  1. This outfit would be great on someone tall like Deepika or Sonam or Lisa Heydon. It just doesn’t suit Alia because she’s too petite to pull it off, in my opinion.

  2. she looks a bit awkward

& that dress looks so last minute… leather mini-dress with a wrap around her waist…
as does her hair.. unkept but not in the “spent-hours-to-create-messy-unkept-look”

  3. Edgier footwear, different earrings and hair would have definitely made a huge difference..right now the only good part about the look seems to be the gown itself!

  4. Alia can’t pull off a hot look. .. She’s better at cute n dainty looks. . Maybe she should stick to that until she grows up a Lil. .

  5. She’s still trying to understand her fashion aesthetic. She looks so good and at ease in her casual appearances. She still needs time to own the red carpet. Not that she looks bad… she just doesn’t seem very comfortable.

  6. This look is SO boring. Here goes the issues:

    1) BLACK. What’s with the colour that she has worn it 4th time now to a red carpet event? And that too a leather dress over red carpet.. REALLY? Black on a Red Carpet is supposed to add “sophistication” to the person and his/her entire look. This Black has NO sophistication at all. Zero marks to the most non-innovative dress. Pls leave leather to the likes of parties and those “bashes”.

    2) Her black dress with her brown hair clash REAL bad. And then she has red earrings, golden footwear and 2 “types” of black (in terms of fabric). Confused much, Alia?

    3) I have ALWAYS said this and still maintain it.. Heavy eye makeup DOES NOT look good on ALIA! Period (My opinion). She has very soft features and an even softer face cut. Always I have noticed that dramatic eye/smokey eye stand out like a sore thumb on her face!!! They just look out of place. She already has got small eyes and heavy eye makeup looks like a blob of black colour being pasted on her eye-socket. She should go for softer makeup!!!!!

    4) Body language. Yes it falls flat.. especially that leg! -_-

Lip colour is good though. Seriously if I was her and had access to the best designers and make-up artists, I would explore and experiment so much. I even recall, that PRACHI DESAI when was her age dressed like a cute pretty girl. Always managed to look endearing. She on the other hand manages to comment on the fashion sense of others.. distasteful!

  7. Cut her some slack. She is trying a sophisticated design. The look could have been more polished. The stylist should’e been more attentive.

  8. Young and edgy…love the way her tiny waist is accentuated. She has such a gorgeous face. Best of all her foundation matches her skin tone….Yay!

  9. Sure the dress is edgy but Alia isn’t tall enough to pull it off. She just looks like she’s trying too hard here, no effortless vibes seen.

  10. In relative agreement with most of the commenters above.

Given how young Alia looks and her softer features, the smokey eye and nude makeup is not for her. I find that the nude lip is very aging on most people but here it looks out of place. This look had potential but the stylists opted for what is fashionable rather than what would work for her. Minor adjustments would have made this an outstanding look.

    1) Alia’s makeup artist seems to have confused full and groomed eyebrows for thick and unkempt ones. Tidying up her brows for a groomed definition (rather than reshaping and thinning her eyebrows) would automatically bring finesse and structure to her face. If that had been done for Alia, the rest of the makeup wouldn’t feel like such a contrast.

    2) They should have opted for the ‘no makeup’ look. Working with her natural tones to enhance her face. It would be perfect for her because the look wouldn’t be a stark contrast to the youthfulness of her face and keep it from looking like ‘try-hard edgy’. A foundation to even the skin, a little highlighter to lift the eyes, cheek and nose, natural toned lip gloss, a cheek stain, mascara and tight-lined eyes would have done wonders. The neutral nails she is wearing would have worked a lot better with this look as well.

    3) The earrings are a mismatch for the outfit. A cuff would have looked better given the ‘casual edgy’ vibe that they were going for with this outfit.

    4) The shoes should have been where they had fun. Gone with something bold orange to contrast against the black and add a pop of colour. It would have made the outfit more age appropriate as well.

    5) A layered tousled middle-parting would have continued the youthful but ‘edgy’ theme.

    5) Finally, the dress itself. The draping of the skirt needed to be balanced because in these photos it is slightly higher on one side, which makes her torso look lopsided. The skirt also needed to be further down her waist and a little more raised from the ground to keep the gown from overwhelming her. Also, the leather top could have benefited from alterations to fit her like a glove.

A look like this would have worked on Deepika and Anushka because they are both tall and have a little more maturity to their faces. Sometimes, stylists forget that what works in theory does not always translate into practice.

  11. Monisha Jaisingh screams ‘wannabe tack’ to me…just a very personal take on the matter…whatever that material is used in the dress it looks like it will leave a rash on you…Alia should stick to some less ‘insecure’ designers…
