In Tarun Tahiliani
Alia attended the screening of Umrao Jaan paying ode to Rekha by recreating one of her looks from the latter’s movie Silsila. Instead of going the regular sari and blouse route, Alia wore a custom stitched sari from Tarun Tahiliani.
Of course, there is no matching Rekha but this was a good effort. I liked that she didn’t go for an exact recreation and changed things up a bit but having said that, did this look really need a “custom” sari never to be worn again?

You are so soft and easy on her lol. Can’t ignore the very obvious wig / fake hair. The make up looks so oily and don’t even get me started on the ugly block platform footwear. Also, this is as exact a recreation as it can get everything from the hair, the exact earring match and the saree colour. This again looks like Alia playing dress up
You think only she wears a wig? Despite her OILY makeup, she is looking good not a remarkable moment but still a good try. Don’t be mean
Thank God someone is soft and easy on her. The rest seem to criticize what ever she does or does not do. She gets so much of scrutiny for nothing.
Hah! By who exactly? Look at DietSabya fangirling over her while shredding other outsider actresses for sport. Every mainstream fashion portal handles her with kid gloves. So spare us the sob story about “unfair criticism.” She’s got unchecked access to all the power and influence in Bollywood so if the audience dares to push back, that’s fair game. It’s nothing compared to what those without her layers of protection face
Dietsabya is very partial to Alia and Ishaan Khattar
He seems to be on Alia Bhatt’s payroll. Follows her to every event as part of her team, shoots her BTS videos and gives “exclusive” bytes.
Alia looks great! Nobody can match Rekha and her outfits/saris in Umrao Jaan and Silsila – but this was a good homage. Alia looks elegant and the color is just lovely.
Hi Karan ?
Sorry, this contrast, daring as it is, just highlights the ridiculous and the sublime. Terrible idea. Only Rekha can do Rekha, everyone else is a pale copy.
Rekha had her original charm and youthful, sweet persona in this look.. it’s nothing close in that sense, maybe matching colors. The makeup on Alia is so caked, looks greasy.
I wonder these new make up baths are any good for skin, aren’t people bothered..
not even a patch on the original.
Also what a world if difference in times.. Rekha made a simple saree look flirty yet elegant and When the hmu wasn’t ott.. rather natural.
She is looking beautiful here and it is a nice homage and effort.
No hate on Alia – she is an awesome actress. But the side by side only highlights how ordinary and everyday looking folks are our icons of today. The kind of magnetic screen presence Rekha has in the image above – I wonder if we will ever have these untouchable levels of beauty and presence again. And no it’s not nostalgia – even if you show it to a random stranger, the womanly allure that Rekha has vs the everyday ness of Alia is so stark it’s unbelievable.
Well said.
Alia looks lovely here… This blouse design suits her frame well. Love the pleasant colour too. Lets not compare her to a veteran pl.
I don’t understand the comments on this post.
It was a screening of one of the legend’s most iconic movies. So understandable that this look was created as a homage. So why the comparison? I think just because their pics are placed side by side, there arises a need for comparison.
I think as is, Alia is looking elegant.
I think she wanted to be compared to Rekha. Why else would she show up like this?
