In Schiaparelli Couture

Comment image 26

Alia walked the red carpet on Friday afternoon wearing a custom gown from Schiaparelli styled by Rhea. The gown was modified from the version presented at the 2025 Couture collection and for some reason the end result feels like a watered down Schiaparelli than an original. Add to that this baby hair styling which to me was bordering on black culture appropriation. Overall, I was not feeling this.

I may be the minority here but as always it just feels more like Ms. Kapoor is so busy going for shock via name value or vintage label sourcing, it doesn’t feel like she factors in at all the person who will eventually wear it.

  1. No no no..just no. The colour is washing her out. The hair while I see in theory is needed for the gown to stand out, Alia is just not able to pull it off. Also the beautiful detailing at the end of the train is lost because it needs more height to fall and land well. Poor choice of gown for her stature. Alia’s posing also looks very awkward and weird! The make up is greasy. Overall a really poor appearance. This is not Alia’s forte. The gown could’ve have been pulled off better by someone else.

  2. That’s the wrong Schiaperelli you’ve put at the bottom. The only modification made is that her bra top is not solid color but matches the fabric and design of the rest of the body if you compare to the runway itaration. Alia looked beautiful. Wet makeup and hair looks fine to me. Again, Rhea does put together the look but the ultimate say comes from the person who wears them. Alia likes muted tones. That’s not on Rhea.

  3. Rhea kapoor is the most overrated stylist in Bollywood. Styles everyone in costumes and does not really dress them even appropriate or personality appropriate. Celebs should ditch Rhea kapoor.

    • Agree 100%. Bad look….period!! So sad to see everyone looking awful by supporting self proclaimed stylist Rhea. Her inexperience reflects when executing these looks from vision board. Like I said earlier, only if money could buy the talent and skill.

    • I’d say not ditch bit definitely be more assertive or involved in the styling process, I see rhea is in her fantasy marvel universe of styles, designers, the history and reach of it, like lost in that space. Strong relevance to the client is required, for being the fashion encyclopaedia and an architect of a look.

  4. Agree i didn’t like it at all.
Completely washes her out and point on with the baby hair comment on the connect to black culture appropriation. A little insensitive and careless that both Rhea and Alia didn’t put more attention into this outside of pop effect

    • Cultural appropriation is a pretty strong accusation. Genuine question to you and Payal. Since cultural exchange is inevitable, what would’ve made this feel more like appreciation and not cross into appropriation? Giving credit? Only limiting it to events where it’s culturally appropriate? I am also referring to Diana Ross wearing a bindi at the Met.

      • Appropriation to me is adopting something for one’s own benefit without understanding the roots one bit. This is the French Riviera with no connection to anything black culture. Alas, we are in an age, someone starts a beauty trend on social media and the rest run with it without understanding the back story. Bollywood especially seems to live in a vacuum where no one seems to question anything. They just roll with it and the others just go rah rah because the business is I scratch your back, you scratch mine…

  5. I cannot agree with you more about the hair, that was the first thing that caught my eye

I think she looks nice, I like the gown and the color. It also fits her and thank God she has refrained from wearing an OTT necklace

  6. Ok, let’s say Rhea doesn’t factor in the person who will eventually wear the dress.
So, what of the person who’s wearing it? Surely the person has agency too?

Or is everything totally upto the stylist?

  7. I think all these outings are more about showcasing Rhea’s connections with legacy fashion houses than it is about the person on the red carpet. Alia looks as good as she can but I imagine this on a Deepika or a Natasha and they’d have knocked it out of the park. Hated the baby hair even without knowing the cultural context.

  8. Fit is off, colour washes her out n hairdo is too tight & gives Nancy Tyagi vibes.
Make up is worst, considering its loreal she is walking for !
Posing doesn’t help…overall an underwhelming debut.

  9. You are right. Her need to” shock”and a general highfalutin aesthetic is administered universally to all her clients. Unfortunately for her, the only one who can pull it off quite successfully is her sister.

  10. Such an underwhelming debut . For Alia it’s been so many years in the industry and she has still not figured out a style that suits her . Get a stylist with some real talent . Rhea is always styling with Sonam in mind , I don’t think she really has a talent for styling but yes she is good at sourcing pieces .
Alia needs to get a stylist who understands her body and style and yes some color would have looked great for a debut

  11. This look was a royal disaster.. can’t get it that Alia can be made to look lacklustre.. the outfit looked like it was falling off and she tried best to hold it up. I miss her fun peppy styling that was ages ago.

  12. So glad she didn’t wear any Indian designer because this year Cannes had a way too many ugly and ill fitted Indian clothes . Except for the Assamese mom / daughter & Karan Johar , nobody stood out .That’s just my personal opinion, pls don’t come at me in the comments!

  13. its a pretty colour.. on someone else though..
for someone petite, why should the gown have so much volume at the bottom.. makes no sense
surely there are other ways to be dramatic
