At the Police show, Alia kept it relatively simple in a white Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla suit paired with earrings from Amrapali and a small black bindi. She looked pretty.

  1. Alia has an impeccable dress sense. She also realises that not every event is a wedding.
For most of Bollywood any event with a stage and red event means either princess gowns or the whole saree look with everything thrown in !

  2. Lovely, simple and elegant. I really like it tht most of the times what she is wearing reflects her personality and she doesn’t look like a curated clone of all the other actresses on the red carpet. I wish she always retains that individuality on the red carpet and doesn’t fall slave to stylists/trends!

  3. She definitely looks pretty. But why is this attire called “Designer”? You can get a similar design in any street shop in Lucknow. It’s a joke when these “Designers” claim that their design has been stolen.

    • Everything is available to everyone at different price points / quality standards. You can get a black blazer at h&m and in Eileen Fisher and at Balmain. Where you buy it from is an individual preference. ‘Designer’ does not necessarily mean ‘one of a kind’.

        • The word here is not “better” but maybe slightly varied and different from what the weavers have been making. When designers like Sabyasachi make Benarasi or Kanjeevaram sarees, they have them woven in the colors or designs of their choices in looms. I say this because my mother is a local designer and she runs silk handlooms. She chooses the silk thread colors, has the old designs from sarees belonging to my aunts and grandmother cut on punch cards and inputs her own twist to those traditional designs and the sarees are woven in unlikely and newer color combinations. That’s where the designer aspect comes in –
instilling a twist to something which is already existing. And that’s why the likes of Sanjay Garg, Shah Gaurang and Sabyasachi are becoming so popular – they are adding a whiff of modernity/variety to an hundreds of years old fabric and style. Like Deb already mentioned there are different price points and quality standards and and individual styles

  4. She looks nice. And that’s about it. I think she could have worn something a little more striking for this event. Actually even the tight churidars would have looked more current.
