On The Ramp

Comment image 12

Alessandra walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra at India Couture week wearing two looks, first more of a skinny sparkly sequin lehenga and then in a corset one embellished with pearls. No denying that she looked great in the sequin one. Hella hot!

As for the pearl, can’t believe that at a Couture week presentation, a) a lehenga that looked more like an art and craft project made it onto the runway and b) with a few pearls missing from the design. Look closely at the corset top.

On an aside, what is with these lazy corset top and lehenga skirts that is the trend these days?

  1. Payal, why do you think corsets with embellishments are easy to make?
Besides, its a way to include a whole new age bracket in the customer base… the gen Z.
Also, the indian designers are spught a lot internationally these days, so its a way to fusion blend the silhouettes.

I dont see anything wrong in any of that.

  2. I don’t think the pearls are missing…the design is for them to look spaced out. Also I don’t like Manish Malhotra but I think both outfits are well-executed in terms of trying to be what they’re aiming for-modern, sexy and easy to wear. So I don’t get what the nitpicking’s about…

    • There is a pearl missing on the right (her right) in the beginning and it is there at the same spot on her left side of the corset. In the pic with Manish, there is one more that seemed to have fallen off.

    • I saw the missing pearl too…
But i coukdnt take my eyes off alexandras walk.
Also the fit is impeccable. Of course its custom made for her. But i would give bonus points to manish for making the designs multi dimensionally suitable.
It could be worn for indian as well as international platforms and variety of occasions and red carpets…
      Well done.

  3. Hate the push up but that’s the goal here i guess, anyway first outfit looks like Christmas tree decor, second like a Diwali or wedding shamiana.
Irrespective of who walked down, the designers pieces should be the talk.

  4. The pearl lehenga is definitely not an art and craft project. I’m not MM fan but interesting move to get an international top model rather than just Bollywood show stoppers. The Lehengas are interesting- not my taste but definitely interesting with the metallic tones and pearls.

  5. I think folks need to see the level of detail and fine execution at the recent Paris Haute Couture Week to see what Payal is talking about. Agree with the poor execution. Even the rows of pearls on the bottom are not evenly spaced out and/or asymmetrical.

    • I too have never seen any couture week, let alone even a colony fashion show.
But easy to see – when the design is based on a recurring pattern, any thing out of the pattern is more jarring than pleasing to the eye.

The pearl lehenga does look a bit amateurish. Maybe it was hard to notice in person when they must have dressed her up, but without the bling of real-life it is super apparent in pictures.

    • Agreed, they look as if they are hanging from some spots, not stiched onto the fabric, and while that might have been nice to create a less rigid, more flowy look, it’s been a lazy job, not checking how they fall, how they collide against other strands.

As an aide, how you do sit in such a piece? Will it be like the Princess and the Pea(rls) effect?

  6. payal you cant really educate general crowd on couture pieces unless they have studied construction and finishing of garments and embroidery . Hapzardly sewing of pearl scallops at the waist is disastrous but then when was Manish malhotra ever known for finishing? even his contemporary designers laugh at his finishing.
