As the promotions for Raavan shifted to Hyderabad, Aishwarya made yet another appearance, this time too in a Sabyasachi.

She perhaps heard y’all cause gone were the westerns, in came the Indian ensemble. 😉

    • SS- Let some western colour codes (so called fashion rules) not hegemonise Indian fashion sensibilities. Handloom weavering in India has used these combinations for ages! Green, yellow (and gold as well)! Let us give fashion its due- Fashion is not about cramming a book of rules but opening your understanding to various cultures. In my humble opinion that is 🙂

      • Well said SM. People always say red and green is so “Christmassy” but that’s the western viewpoint speaking. It’s a lovely combo and looks good. I think Aishwarya looks nice here.

      • Agreed…its a very traditional combination…..has been out there for years. Lots of silk sarees, salwar suits are available in that combo…and they look great 🙂

      • SM…your opinion assumes that the only reason why I see ‘red’ in this ‘green and yellow’ combination is because its western…..its not that….western eastern not withstanding…black and yellow….green and yellow…even red and green…are just too garish and not pleasing to the eye….is MY humble opinion….which is so great about fashion…ppl get to express their fashion ideas and stick to them and then get to hear others 🙂

        • I am not sure it’s the proper green and yellow. I stand “guilty” of owning the combo in a sari – and its sort of leaf green and a mango yellow. This one is just insipid – not muted enough and not a pop of colour either?

  1. I like the dress, very flattering, but I had similar ones even 8-9 years ago. What is designer (that too Sabya) about this? Maybe its the simple and classic designs he wants to bring back – like the handloom sarees.

The bag, doesn’t look too bad with this outfit as the outfit is simple, but its too gold for my taste.

    • My thoughts were also same when i saw this, what’s so designer about it? It is so any ‘local boutique made’ looking. nevertheless it’s neat!

    • cudn’t agree more. had so many of these kind of salwar kameez growing up, there is nuthign designer in it.. hmm.. maybe the zipper in front! 😉

    • I agree…I love the color and overall it’s a classic look but I wouldn’t pay designer price for this outfit. Ash looks smashing though. Except for that gawdawful bag.

    • i thought so too, i had a pretty similar outfit a while back, green and off white i think. was Not thosands of Rupees/Dollas worth 🙂

      • anyone whose from Pakistan and has been to Khaadi can tell you that similar three piece designer suits (some infintely more pretty) are available for 3-4 k while the imitations can be bought for a meagre Rs. 400-800. I wouldn’t pay more than 2 k for the suit ash is wearing.

        • Yes that’s true….I’ve got Pakistani friends and they say that cotton salwar kameezez are a huge thing there and people pay a lot for them.

      • Absolutely…this is a generic plain kurta-fitted churidar ensemble you can find in any decent store that stocks Indian wear anywhere in the world.

Even though I have loved many of his creations in the past, I think of late Sabya is stuck in a rut. It is a classic case of too much success and hype making a creative person intellectually lazy, repetitive, complacent and boring!

Sabya probably thinks he can sell a jute sack now as long as it carries his label.

Though Ash does look nice…except for that blingy bag.

    • Don’t understand what you all mean by ‘designer’ here. All designer outfits do not have to avant-garde or signature! Fashion is still a business and designers have to be able to retail their outfits to the general public if they want to make money, through simpler, wearable and accessible designs (if not price.)
You don’t have to be a celebrity to wear designer!

    • I was reading Sabyasachi’s interview where he said that the biggest challenge for him on Raavan was to make the clothes NOT stand out. That was the brief given to him by Mani Ratnam. Maybe the outfits that Aishwarya Rai is wearing for Raavan’s promos are in line w/ that….b/c all of them have been dowdy, and that’s definitely not what a typical Sabya outfit is!

  2. She looks good. The color looks good on her. But it looks very ordinary. I mean it is something that can be found in any of the stores – doesn’t seem luxurious as a designer wear should be. And the bag has gotta go.

  3. if i were her i would burn that bag. yes the colours are all wrong. mrs bachchan has a habit of unlearning all too quickly it seems.

  4. What a catty bunch. She looks great as usual. Great colors, and looks cool as a cucumber even after a flight. How many of you can say the same about yourselves?

    Reply
    • She was on a flight from Hyderabad to Mumbai – a one and a half hour flight, that too in first class. All of us would look “cool as a cucumber”. If she looks that fresh after a 15 hour flight in economy class, then that’s something.

    • Obligatory “bash the commenter” post. Because one must never you know criticise the goddesses of our phillum industry.

Oh and all of us would look darned good if we had private jets, few first class etc. etc.

      • Oh, I guess it’s just fine to bash a public persona constantly though. Or never to presume that they worked darned hard to get where they are. Sour grapes all around, I guess.

    • Nobody is saying she’s looking tired/drained/unkempt/fat. All the comments are about her outfit and bag and I’m fairly sure we’d hear the same comments if anybody else was in this ensemble. I find snide remarks tiresome as well but some people really overreact when it comes to any criticism about Aish. This is a fashion blog, not a fan club.

    • Aw, come on now, peeps! I dont think npm was actually posing that question to everyone. She likes her look, so what? Why does any commenter who praises Ash gets bashed, mostly? lol.

  5. she looks good though, the dress is very ordinary, something you will get at Sarojini Nagar in Delhi, and may you will get better options in color combinations.

I find the little luggage tab on an LV bag rather cute for some reason.

    • my thoughts precisely. This dress is ordinary with a capital O. I have seen similar ones though a lot prettier adn imaginatively designed in my local market’s boutique as well as countless times at my tailor. Sabya is very overrated IMO.

  6. I love that dress. The handloom feel and green colour is very palatale. The gold bag does not look as bad here as it actually is but it has to go soon.
She is so radiant and green is beautiful on her!

  7. I love it! simple and elegant. why is designer wear synonymous with decadence and bling? it can be wholesome too as Sabya very aplty shows all the time

  9. so is her left eyebrow permanently trying to take off from the runway now?

    fugly bag, fugly shoes.

interesting outfit. i’m too much of a behenji to see the appeal of a zipper down the front of a shalwar kameez, that too when it ends right on the paunch. not doing anybody any favours, is it. the edginess of the zipper is totally lost on the rest of the outfit – which is totally out of some local darzi shop.

on an aside, i dont mean to pinpoint just aish here, but i do wish indian women would look more “indian” and not dye their hair this light. god didnt give indians light brown/orange hair.

  11. Pardon my ignorance ..but someone up said something about rules of fashion – not pairing green with yellow .. but why not.. if done right, it looks good..and that color combination is used a lot in Indian clothes .. so why is it such a fashion No-No? Can anyone please explain.

Ash looks good here .. but the outfit is too Fabindia-ish.. not that I don;t like Fabindia.. I just love it… but like everyone said there’s nothing designer about it.. that too Sabya.. except for that mirror strip at the border of the dupatta.!!

  12. Wow ok so she came right off the plane for this? The plane shot where she was wearing jeans the pink scarf and white tee with the same shoes and bag transformed into this? She looks quite good.. I see why she chose to bring this bag with her. I think the bag is perfect to spice up a desi ensemble.. fashion can be fun and a gold LV is perfect for summer.

It’s funny people hate on her for wearing something “outlandish” (like the gold LV) and say “she’s just wearing it because it’s designer” and then when she picks something “simple” (like the suit she has on because it apparently is too simple and looks like any ordinairy street suit) people say oh she’s just wearing it because it’s designer. What’s a girl to do!?

  13. Hey! Whats with people here… She looks goddawesome… And that dress is real pretty… She totally works the ‘ordinary’ look and im glad that she wore this after all the doled up versions we have gotten used to seeing her in… Makes her human somehow… 🙂 And so what if it looks like a ‘fab india’ outfit… Cant a designer wear look like ordinary woman’s clothes!!! And the bag actually goes with the outfilt, people…

  14. I love her here minus golden handbag…since its golden and big too and there is yellow already ..its a no no.

I really liked her dress, its so simple and always -in style.
BTW,i like yellow and green together and these are muted tones ,so perfect together.
I also like brighter combination sometimes in hot summer…i know i know its mustardy but people wear bumble -bee /yellow taxi ( in bombay) combos..mine is better.

  16. the picture on the very right in the bottom set.. reminds me of her olden days.. she looks adorable! so innocent and all!

she looks good and i agree with NPM on this, what matters the most is how well she carries the outfit and i think she looks good!

minus the bag ofcourse, but i am assuming she only took the one bag on her promotional visits as she was carrying the same bag in earlier pics and had on the same pair of heels! she packs lights for sure lol.

  17. I love these pyjama bottoms by Sabyasachi – the horizontal lines look so much better with longer kurtis.
The dupatta is really pretty… Btw – the colours are SO indian… Fashion may have rules but style doesn’t – nor does culture.

P + P – I notice she has the same shoes/bag as the jeans/vest combo is this getting off the same flight? Who are her shoes by?x

Her sandals remind me of Aldo ‘VILLELA’ Platform Sandals, before seen on Dia Mirza in Black and Blue….they could be those same ones in different color. If u like them so much u can find them at ALDO

  19. Sorry but I absolutely love the color combo! the designer element comes in the form of the cut of the dress, the way the churidar fits her….which you won’t get at your local store! its classic n simple….and sensible – its so hot out there anyways

  20. that gold bag is hideous and brings the tone down of the whole outfit. hope it was a freebie and that she didn’t buy it voluntarily.

  23. I actually like the outfit. If she dressed like this all the time I could actually respect her. Classic and clean. Nothing out of the ordinary but for her it’s a small miracle. Are you kidding, the bag is FAB! Love the wide flat bottom.

The last pic scared me, she looks so mean, and that stupid over processed brown hair. Bad taste thy name is Aishwarya.

WHY would she carry a fake???

  25. I thnik everyone is more interested in her LV bag than her Sabyasachi outfit – looks a little cheap with zipper in front. I guess appropriate for Raavan promos!
