In Sabyasachi

It was a Sabyasachi again for Ms. Rai at the Kalyan Jewellers inauguration ceremony, this time in a gold floor-length anarkali. The pearl choker necklace seemed rather overkill but given that it was the brand’s ceremony, guess she had to wear something…

  1. No matter how much flak this lady gets for her fashion choices, but you gotta give it to her for always conducting herself perfectly every single time. She might be a tad boring, but never even borderline tacky ! For her, there’s a lot more to her than clothes.

    • +100! don’t recollect her Dressing in a sleazy undignified way ever. Agree she is repetitive, boring and wears gaudy shiny Abu-Sandeep stuff so often but never recollect her doing a malaika arora kind of thing..

    • True that! I don’t care much for her choices but I have never seen do a clown act in the name of fashion or end up looking tacky. Given its a jewelry launch and in Dubai, I don’t see any problem with her showing up in all gold.

  2. a plain black saree with her hair tied in knot would have highlighted the choker. right now it looks like an extra piece.
kalyan jewellers should provide her a stylist for their events if they want to highlight their jewellery.
Aishwarya looks beautiful in simple looks but she is bent on dressing ott.

  3. It never fails to surprise me that actresses show up with such blinged-out outfits at jewelry store launches where they are expected to wear, at minimum, 2 pieces from the brand. Any jewelry she would have worn already lost the battle with that outfit and that hair.

Really wonder why these jewelry brands don’t hire a stylist to make sure both the celeb and their jewelry shine without getting in each other’s way…

  4. How about we see the next Ash post ONLY if she is in a non-anarkali outfit? I mean seriously, does she get paid to wear these outfits? Then why would any woman wear the same style for every big event she attends? Even lesser mortals like us don’t have more than 2 outfits of the same style.

  5. I have to say that you guys seem to cover only those events of hers where she wears a anarkali. You’re rigging the posts to make us be exasperated with her clothes choices. There are a lot of photos of hers where she’s not in anarkalis and looks like she’s dressed for her age. #notfair. Also my comments rarely seem to get published. Let’s see if this one gets published, especially as it criticizes you guys.

  6. Thanks too all the comments here, poor Ash seems to be suffering from body dysmorphia. She seems to favor these tent-type outfits to protect herself against all the bitchiness…

  7. The only nice thing I am going to say is that Aishwarya is wearing a really pretty choker. The rest is ‘bakwaas’. One thing I have learnt about approaching 40…minimum, clean, classy. If I had a face like hers I would not dress it up in gold. It’s a beautiful outfit but alas …for a bride.

    • agree about dressing when you are approaching your 40s (like I am). “carrie” said it best in an old SATC episode that ladies that age need to be putting it away. I live by that advice. less skin, less bling, less tight.

  8. Well, since anarkalis seem to be Ash’s comfort zone now, I’ll just say that she could have saved this look a little by not draping that dupatta like that. Perhaps folding it and let it hand on one shoulder. The way she has draped it makes her look much MUCH bigger than she actually is.

  9. You guys are very biased! I agree that you only put pics of her’s wearing anarkalis. It’s like as if you guys are paid to write against her! Why didn’t you show pics of her launching Longines in a b-suit? Cause it would make people praise her???
    Please P&P stop being biased!!
I will be shocked if you will publish this post

  10. After post baby it is completely discouraging to see her style sense
it looks like she got carried away by the event and wore everything that was given to her …she can use her brains and look more sassy

  11. I’m going to go against the grain here. While it would be nice if she wore something simple to show off the jewelry, she’s dressed perfectly for the type of consumer that would be buying this type of jewelry. Most jewelry is sold for brides and weddings and desis deck themselves up from head to toe in bling during those times. There’s no such thing as wearing simple clothes to let the jewels shine. It’s about loading on as much as possible.

Kalyan’s biggest market must be pre-wedding jewelry buying which is when all the big sets are sold. Aishwarya looks perfect for the segment they’re targeting.

  12. I think she looks pretty, graceful, dignified and age appropriate. Draping the dupatta that way is respectful for the country she is in. I only wish she would position her bindi lower instead of high up on her forehead cos that does not look flattering at all. And the eye make up….sigh, I wish I could hide all her kajal sticks from her!
