Sari Style

It was a kanjeevaram sari for Aishwarya Rai who attended the 57th National Film Awards in Delhi where hubby Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh were honored. We don’t have to state the obvious. Yay! for going for a traditional woven one.

P.S. Apologize for the late posting, we’ve been hunting for full-length pics.

  1. @Jasmine…it seems like she is wearing a bindi…a really tiny one…the camera catches the sparkle if you look closely at pics 2 and 3 🙂 I think it’s a little yellow bindi…and yes, she looks great! 🙂

    • yes, i half-recognised that could be a bindi — but wish it was something large and round and purple 😉 or even a small dot in purple 🙂

  2. this took my breath away ! So lovely ! Yay for chosing the traditional saree with the traditional zig zag pattern and traditional colours. Gorgeous totally !
2 “rooms” for improvement – different colour for hair and bindi.

  3. Are you serious? The hair colour is such a clashing mess against the sari… it has to go!! pleasee! It even takes away from her beautiful face…

  4. Both her and the saree are stunning! love the minimal jewellery, wish she’d do something about that hair…starting to look shabby, Mrs. Rai-B!

You hardly see anyone in these elegant traditional sarees these days. Its just so perfect, hair jewelry makeup everything. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

  7. excellent saree. my only gripe is that the blouse pattern is a bit too busy against the border draped across her chest. but SUCH a small point – arb always looks stunning when she chooses traditional weaves – when she tries too hard to look trendy and modern is where she always goes wrong.

  10. I loved the fact she went with Traditional Indian sari and not her usual filmy MM. However I feel she had way too much makeup on > I saw jaya & shweta’s pics next to her and they looked so elegant, graceful & Natural.
I would love to see ash look more natural. No doubt she looks pretty here but I feel with less makeup she will look even better and real.

  11. I have a purple saree with green border. Looks stunning as here. its a lightweight Poona saree and pretty cheap. Sometimes it all about the colors we choose not necessarily what type.

  12. Love the saree. the colours, the bindi , the bindi colour and the temple border of the saree. Kanjeevaram rocks!! She looks like a typical south Indian here and of course looks lovely!!!

  13. this just reinstates my theory:when it comes to sarees there is nothing that can match up to our traditional fare…sabyasachi being the only designer who is an exception…n maybe the odd anamika khanna…but otherwise no one really…

ash really looks divine…the only grouse is the hair colour…

  15. This is pretty common design for a Kanchi, definitely not something unique, exclusive or designer about this saree. Neverthless it is striking, bold and makes a huge statement! I love the fact that she can go from designer clothes and sarees to something that a common person can find and wear! Kudos for wearing a gorgeous kanchi saree and bringing exposure to these traditional looms! She has made a traditional saree modern with the minimal jewellery and simple styling and make up! Kudos, Aish! you and your saree rock!
