Of Dresses

Aishwarya got the dress code memo, so there’s that. Everything else was a miss.

That embellished blazer is an odd choice to team the dress with. And picking taupe sandals instead of black, another odd choice. Also, big hair added to the heaviness of the look and that strong red lip just didn’t work with the outfit of choice.

After the fantastic hair and make-up run at Cannes, can’t believe she followed it up with this. Should’ve held on to that team! The outfit, there’s just no salvaging that.

    • Either that or….she’s in a world of her own. Because I just saw a video of her walking in to the party and it was as if she was walking for a beauty pageant round…really comical given the occasion in question. Made me believe she’s really playing the part.

  1. Can I pre-empt the inevitable ‘fire her stylist’ comment here? We all know sometimes celebs style themselves yet their stylists get all the flak poor things. There’s just no way any stylist worth her salt would have picked this. Imagine random people wanting to fire us over the internet. Just brutal.

  2. That blazer just killed the entire look, her hair and make up is gorgeous though! Wish we had seen the big hairdo in Cannes this year…

  3. Did she restyle her Cannes golden dress from a few years ago with this blazer? Nothing wrong in reusing an old gown as long it’s styled well. This is a full blown disaster.

I think Ash is a victim of her own success and the only way out is for her to reinvent herself or walk away. And her entire career was built on only her looks so people will judge her based on that. Unpopular opinion but that’s just my take.

    • THIS. Talent isn’t everything when you’re a star, and Ash has made bank being a star more than being an actor. If dressing interestingly is not her priority right now, why not hire a good team? Or maybe pick a low effort high reward style like JayaB with bomb sarees & necklaces, hair pulled back and (much) lighter makeup.

  4. What is this?
If you are not comfortable wearing a sleeveless dress don’t wear it. Period! There are plenty of designs n cuts availed in dresses n gowns. Don’t just add any goddamn jacket over a dress, just for modesty sake, that too which doesn’t even go with gown.

    • what does she not care about ? why pick up something fitted if not comfortable wearing it. she wants to wear the most ‘look at me’ outfit then cover it up . most beautiful woman in the whole world yada yada yada…is not comfortable in her own skin

  5. Sans the jacket , hair and the red lip would have come together well with this gold dress. The jacket is adding the unnecessary bulk here.. AB looked dapper

  6. She should have just worn the gown…

Maybe paired it with a shawl if the dress didn’t sit well on her. I know it’s summer but people were wearing boots, so why not a shimmery shawl.

  7. This is frustrating at this point…. All those who think her run at Cannes was decent? No, it was awful. The woman was the first one in India to wear French & Italian couture, she had long standing creative relationships with Armani, Gucci & Elie Saab. All of that has been thrown under the bus because her stylist gets paid better by unknown middle eastern designers. As for personal style Aishwarya never had one, but still she used to dress according to the occasion. Now we only see her in clothes that can generate some response on Insta. Clownish to say the least.

  8. She looks better here than cannes, I mean there’s more effort. Hate the big hate covering face and a bright red lip in a all glittery gold gown. The dress looks nice but what made her do a black blazer idk

  9. Seems like she and Shweta are trying to upstage each other at being the most loud and ridiculously dressed. No mirrors at their house?

  10. And just like that we are back to the red lips, garish makeup & hair, and blingy blingy clothes that does her no service.

She really needs a huge makeover.

Just not wearing that jacket would have made a world of difference.

  11. And no, it is not the same Cavalli from 2014. It had a great fall and was in a delish shade of gold. Not garish. But they do look uncannily similar.

  12. Okay I have so many thoughts (a lot of which have already been said) but if this is her Cannes gown from a few years back then I’m just scratching my head as to why one would wear that to a friend’s birthday?? Sorry but this is truly tacky head to toe..if I showed up to a party looking like this and saw everyone else’s relatively more minimal looks, I would’ve walked right back out.

And yeah like someone said, she’s put in more effort here than in her entire Cannes run which is just…baffling.

  13. I still remember her from early 2000’s in lovely sarees and sexy blouses…Where did that Aishwarya go? Not trying to go deep but whenever I see her pics now I end up comparing her with her contemporaries like Karisma, Rani, Raveena and Shilpa and I always feel something amiss in her case!!!

    • Oh yeah, she was by choice sexy yet elegant! Thanks for reminding, it’s nice to see her even if it’s once in many years, so the whole dressing up doesn’t really strike

  14. I think barring Cannes and other events, the rest of the time she styles herself. In the sense, she might just have an MUA, hair dresser and someone who delivers clothes (from designer to Ash). These 3 may not even have a coherent look in place. She puts on the dress, MUA and hair dresser do what they do – red lip and poker straight hair and if Ash feels conscious, she just throws in a shawl or stole or jacket and rolls with it. Comfort over style. Damn, even Karan could have helped her with a better Co ordinated look. It might have worked if the jacket was all gold. A la Rekha mode. Black is too garish. Gives me a ‘party’s over…. I’m tired’ vibe with that jacket looking like a raincoat someone handed her while she waited for her car to go home

  15. I have been a huge supporter of Aishwarya, but this just makes me sad. I give up on her! Her sense of style is getting atrocious day by day. Don’t even get me started on the makeup. I can not fathom anyone belonging to the film industry, having access to best designers, and mixing with people having good style, turns up wearing THIS! Sigh!!

  16. The gown and hair look great. If she had discarded that god-awful jacket she would have looked sensational. Yes, even with that same old, boring, red lipstick.

  17. I think this has been discussed here before, that stylistically she is almost two different people when in Indian and Abroad. And I do not mean this sarcastically at all, but it seriously seems like when she is out of the country, she assumes her pre-marriage, self-earned identity and in India, she MUST dress like a bade Ghar ki bahu.
Almost like it triggers a compulsive, defense mode in her.
