Churidaar Vs. Patiala

Comment image 66

Spotted Ash once again in an icy pale hue, this time at the Star Screen Awards!

She sure does love her ‘churidaars’ with every silhouette. No complains though, because we’ll take a ‘churidaar’ over a ‘patiala’ any day when it comes to formal events! Comfortable as they may be, ‘patialas’ aren’t our first pick for formal events.

What about you? Would you wear a ‘patiala’ to a formal event?

  1. i see nothing wrong with wearing patiala’s to formal events as long as the kameez/top with it is also of a formal kind…patiala’s suit some body types better than churidaars do so i think it’s also about the person’s comfort level and how they look in the cut of the outfit..there is nothing absolute about one looking better than the other.

  2. That is a terrible churidar and I must comment when she is not posing, she ends up in some terrible shots… really bad pic the second one…

  3. Very ugly outfit.

The only time Ash is dressed well is when the stylists are taking care of her in Cannes. I hope the Pink Panther producers give her a stylist for the premiere because otherwise….

  4. I am a big Patiala Salwar stickler. I wear it to all formal ocassions. Agree with apsara.
I am way more comfortable in salwars than churidaars as it complements my body type (it conceals my skinny legs).

  5. its nice she wore indian, but don’t like the outfit, and its over the top blingy embroidery, the bright colour makes it more loud.

she looks okay, but double chin happening again!

agree with apsara77 about the patiala’s, nothing wrong as long as the kameeze with it is right.

  6. ‘I’….’I’ would wear better, classier outfits to weddings….these people are rich stars ! come on ! a tacky salwar!?? so much for being an international icon. Time to take a leaf out of Freida’s book lady.

P&P I see that you’ve been very diplomatic in describing the outfit. reason??

someone who is so beautiful that even a 100 rs dress wud look gorgeous on her looks so bad in the designer outfits ….
a short lentgh shirt with litle or no embroidry and adecent dupatta wud hav look fav … that cluth is soo dificult to hold ..so looks nice ..

and that double chin….so many things going wrong in single pic ..

  10. Sushi,
I guess we are tired of saying the same thing again and again about her! The change ain’t coming anytime soon since Cannes is still quite a while away… 😉
Hopefully, the Pink Panther 2 premiere will bring a surprise.

  12. One of the very few indian actresses that you see signing autographs. Makes me think Ash is very courteous to her fans. As far as the outfit, its boring.

  13. 🙁 she disappoints again.

nothing wrong with patiala salvaar as a formal as has been voiced many times. i only have one churidar and numerous patiaala shaahiz. like the latter a lot better on my body.

  14. the blue is nice but all that gold is jarring
normally this is one of my fave colours and i love chudidars…but this dress is a bit too chandni-chowk for my liking!

as for patialas – would definitely wear to formal things based on what the top is like

  15. yep her makeup is too light for her skin…..its bollywoods obssesion with fairness..most all these actresses r real dark without any makeup…

  16. I am a big patiala fan since and it suits my body type to the T, i wear short shirts smiple suits with work on dupattas. However Ash’s suit is just to Auntie ji type, i have nothing against churidar but the shirt is too long, I loved Katrina’s churidar on Dus ka Dum if you are going to wear long shirts than wear a anarkali instead.

  17. Ooooo she looks amazing! I actually really like the icy blue and gold combination. It’s a lot like something she wore while performing in the Unforgettable show in Toronto. Except that was pink and silver.
I swore then and there to wear pink and silver for my wedding (lol). But now I’m thinking of adding an icy blue and gold something to my closet. It looks awesome with her complexion so I think it’ll work for mine as it’s so similar. 🙂

  18. am i the only one who thinks she is looking great..love the color on her skin n its nice that she wore bling for once… the other indian dresses i have been seeing on her were too simple..

  19. I love patiala’s.. i dont even own a churidaar cuz i dont thnk it compliments my slim body.. i look even more skinner.. Patiala’s put a little weight so i’d wear that instead..

  20. oh! I hate this outfit. Bling overload for sure! Common!! with all the money and designer stuff that these folks have at their disposal..this is what she picks!
I like that shade of icy blue and I dont mind that she sticks to pastels a lot. But this dress looks so TACKY!!!

  21. some how the Bachan family have no taste in cloths whatsoever, Jaya Aish and her husband.
@Aarthi: money doesn’t bring you class and elegant either you have it or not you cant buy it. Oh her feet are kind of not pretty sorry to say this

  22. the material looks like cheap zari left overs that were picked from some bylanes of Hyd’s laad bazar … what a disappointment .. she should get MIL to pick her outfits as well.

Agree with mobiles .. dont they have assistants who can answer ph call while they are at an event..

  23. this is one of the most blingiest outfits ever and i guess ash wore it as starscreen awards is not as good as other awards …so many actors seem to have not taken much of an effort

  25. I am one of those very rare who thinks that she is looking great! I like the color and feel that this must be looking better in person..as far as long kurta goes..I think she wears it very elegantly and her tall lean frame makes it look nice!

  26. I think it’s a hideous outfit…she just keeps getting from bad to worse! Her mother-in-law needs to stop dressing her…she needs a real stylist fast!!!

  27. Ash looks gorgeous always..but this blue churidaar doesn’t do much for me. I don’t like the color, or the work or even the lenght of the top.

  28. This is so Lajpat Nagar. tacky gold work, tacky dupatta and shiny satin churidaar. Looks like she went to Lajpat nagar for the blingy shoes too. And what is that drum like thing that she keeps carrying for a clutch?

    Reply
  29. Oh there is too much bling going on. If the bling was under control, it would have been a fab outfit. If she had all the gold on the dupatta, she could perhaps keep it simple on the kameez.
I hate her over complicated shoes too.

  30. Patialas may look awkward on the red carpet, but to a party where everyone is in indian clothes, why not? And if it gets REALLY formal, i would say ditch any kind of suit and go for a lehnga or sari. Esp. if you’re an older woman, work that sari, they are the most elegant. =]

  31. P&P, I must say you’re being way too diplomatic about this outift and any of Ash’s stuff in general. I think it should be obvious to everyone this icy blue number is far worse than Anushka’s gold and white number in the post above. Yet that’s a ‘bad memories’ and this hideous blue thing doesn’t even get the slightest criticism. I know you’ve said you’re being more diplomatic than in previous posts about her, but I have to disagree; where? I’ve never seen her in a ‘Not Quite’ category (this one belongs there for sure; even the comments stand proof!), because I guess that would be too clear criticism of Ash. Please do point out if I’m overlooking something.

  32. Oh ok, I see now that you’ve said ‘patialas are not our first pick for a formal event’, but come on, there’s more things unappealing about this outfit!

  33. i agree about the churidar v. patiala. but even here, here churdar are bunched too loose – tighter to the ankle (and the calf) would have looked much better, esp. given the material. on the whole, a hideous outfit. reminds of that terrible tissue/lamee saree she wore at her wedding ceremony. such a shame, too.

  34. she looks better in shorter salwars… if its the same collection that twinkle wore from – she looked MUCH MUCH better..

shes moved to blingy abu jaani from over the top neeta lulla outfits.. thank god at last cannes she did not f it up.. and looked quite ok..

  35. Lol somehow I don’t think the makeup change is because Ash is obsessed with being fair? lol that is so ridiculous. But yes Bollywood in general is obsessed with it! Don’t really like this outfit but I like it better than Suzannes
